i,m glad i snagged some along the way when i was young, some were cheap too even at the time.
if i were young today and not a trustfunder i would not rule out snagging a late sixties sg, you get a little more pickguard but there may actually be some sleeper deals on some of those, i dont think they are really a bad looking guitar either. if you like the sound of one and it has a good neck why not! probably a rad investment too

these paf sg,s in my opinion will give any burst a run for their money, they sound spectacular, and the necks with a good setup play real nice and fast.
these are still a bargain, heck they are cheaper now than they were before. i think they were 30k for a bit?
the only problem and to me its a real problem is the neck flexing out of tune. i was standing with a strap playing clean and could hear it plain as day, i have to be real carefull what kind of pressure i put on the neck. maybe when your cranked up it doesnt matter, hell your clothes are all ripped up, youve had 11 beers, who's taking notes?

I have a feeling Simo would just snap the neck off one of them.

I'd love to see the goof plate above the neck pickup on this one - I have 0 8878, which has a rectangular plate like the 1962 catalogue example, rather than the usual trapezoid.

Here is something you rarely see, some one playing a 1960 Les Paul standard new style. Joe Bonamassa brought this LP on most recent tour, serial number 0-8890. According to Joe the sideways vibrola has not been modified in any way.

Had a 68 batwing, it had a wiggly neck that I couldn’t bond with, it got traded in the 80’s

i picked up a 2012 25th townsend anniversary 63 special that I love and little or no neck tremelo

They fixed it in late 1961-2 with this:

The coolest PAF version...then comes the Pelham Blues in 1964, also as cool as an SG can be.

Nice! I stopped in at Wildwood Guitars and played a bunch of their Custom Shop Wildwood Spec SG's. The ones with necks thinner than about .82" at the first fret did seem to have a little more neck vibrato capability, but I found them all to have great playability. Really nice guitars overall even though I did not find "the one." I found they liked to be cranked up to get the most out of them whereas my R9 and ES 335 are both more full/vibrant at lower volumes. But then I was playing outside, and they all had the Wildwood Spec pickups in them (underwound). I'd like to try a '64 Custom Shop with the thicker neck (around .87" at 1rst fret) and non-Wildwood pickups. I love the Wildwood spec pickups in my R9, but who knows if they are as great in an SG. My R9 Les Paul covers a lot of hard rock ground so the SG is a "nice to have" for me personally, but I want one
