Hi,
I came Across an article Where They say the Clapton signature Stratocaster has 140 times higher output than a Gibson Les Paul at 25 DB mid boost and 31,5 times higher output than a Gibson Les Paul at 12 DB mid boost. The Clapton signature Stratocaster with its advanced and powerful preamp and that its active all the time makes it incredibly powerful. That everyone knows. But this sounds a bit too much difference. The Clapton signature Stratocaster has Stacked Humbuckers of 9,8 Khom as passive Stacked Humbuckers but as The Clapton signature Stratocaster is always active ( it Does not function without a 9 volt battery ) the Stacked Humbuckers as active has 29,4 Khom in The Clapton signature Stratocaster. They say that as active The Vintage Noiceless Stacked Humbuckers gets 3 times more powerful. But the output issue was not related to that but output is measured in volts. The Clapton signature Stratocaster has 17,78 volts at 25 DB mid boost and a Gibson Les Paul with PAF Humbuckers has 0.127 volts. The Clapton signature Stratocaster starts at 12 DB mid boost. Thats its weakest position and even there it has 4 volts. I have known as I work in the guitar business that The Clapton signature Stratocaster is incredibly powerful because of the very advanced and very powerful preamp. And a passive Gibson Les Paul is a very low output guitar. The figures I have heard before about the Clapton signature Stratocaster ( and you must remember this guitar has an insane output much higher than anyone except appearantly Clapton needs. Many pro guitarists have tried it and said it had way way way to High output and left it alone. This is as far away from a Stratocaster you can possibly come. Clapton who only recorded with a regular Stratocaster between 1974 to 1982 before getting completely fed up with it and Started playing High gain Humbucker guitars has Always prefered the Gibson sound, but Gibson did not want to Pay him money as Fender did. Fender payed an enormous amount To Clapton to sign with Fender in 1985. Clapton on the other hand told Fender he wanted the highest output guitar as his signature guitar. Fender made the easily highest output guitar for Clapton and Thats the one he has played since early 1986) is that the Clapton signature Stratocaster at its lowest 12 DB mid boost has about 11 times higher output than a Gibson Les Paul and at 25 DB mid boost an incredible 60 times higher output than a Gibson Les Paul. You have to remember The Clapton signature Stratocaster was made for an artist that wanted the most output in the world in his guitar. So even if its sold to the public it should not be. But these figures seem to High : That is that the Clapton signature Stratocaster has 140 times higher output than a Gibson Les Paul at 25 DB mid boost and that The Clapton signature Stratocaster has 31,5 times higher output at 12 DB mid boost than a Gibson Les Paul.
I attach images from the article.
What an incredible shame its not possible to upload photos here. I have the article saved but I am not sure How to upload the direction here. This is a serious Question and not at all something animes at Gibson Les Paulnplayers. I own 3 Gibson Les Paul. But its the low output in the Gibson Les Paul that Give them that warm feeling. Refered to as thick tone as well.
