THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING!
We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and recently moved to a new hosting platform. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
WE HAVE MOVED THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER! Let us know how it is going! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin
Please support our Les Paul Forum Sponsors with your business - Gary's Classic Guitars, Wildwood Guitars, Chicago Music Exchange, Reverb.com, Throbak.com and True Vintage Guitar. From personal experience doing business with all of them, they are first class organizations. Thank you!
I tried getting one out of a customer service rep. that I've become "friendly" with.........apparently I'm not the only one. He said he's tried to get these from the Custom Shop on many occasions.........NO DICE!
Everyone who has a gibson says its much more harmonic balanced. They say it opens up the tone, lets the wood breath sort of ? I have one, but havent put it on yet. I cant remember where I got it from, the guy had a few extra too.
Nick,
I know what the difference is between the light weight and the regular tail pieces, but what is the difference between the Gibson tail piece and an All-Parts tail piece if they are both light weight?
The LW Gibson is shaped slightly closer to the original TP than the Allparts liteweight. Where the TP hooks onto the stud, the Gibson has a 90 degree step-angle to the center section as opposed to the Allparts 60 degree angle.
The alloy used is pretty much the same for both, so they sound the same. If someone can hear a difference, its because their head is planted too far up their ass....could have an effect on ones hearing!
Does anyone have a picture of the Allparts tailpiece either separate or on a guitar? On a side note has anyone else seen the Gotoh lightweight tailpiece, Brandoni's here in London has them, but only in Chrome. Do they do it in Nickel? And for that matter is it in fact the tailpiece that Allparts sell? The one I saw looked and weighed right on a cursory glance but I wasn't looking for chrome. The chrome ones are £25 BTW.
The Allparts TP is really close in shape to the new Gibson. Close is never the same however. I put them on all my new Gibsons and they do make a difference. If I could of gotten a Gibson, I would have. The Gibson TP wasn't available at the time and I don't plan on replacing the Allparts TP when they come out.
