• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I hate Norlin guitars. I wouldn't use one for a jackstand. But, as mentioned in a recent thread, a lot of classic rock & roll has been made on them. So let's post pics of some of those guitars- Standard, Custom, or otherwise, & discuss & them & the music they made!

Good thread. :)

Mick Rogers from Manfred Manns Earth Band with his early 70s LP Custom.

Guitarist from German progrock band Birth Control with his early 70s LP Custom.

And Livin Blues - Dutch early 70s bluesrock band

Those early 70s LP Customs were used by so many rock and progrock groups, especially in Europe, where older 50s Les Pauls were not very available.

Hey Clogs, so you don't like Norlins... I'm sure they ain't troubled

As far as iconic Norlins are concerned, Randy Rhoads isn't a bad place to start...

Andrew Latimer with Camel played a Norlin throughout the '70s and a good portion of the '90s. Example HERE.

Jimmy Page had a nice red Norlin LP. It can be seen in "The Song Remains the Same" movie. Gibson made it for him as a backup to his #1. He had been having a difficult time finding a second vintage LP for a backup to his #1. It was a real problem... the pickup in his #1 went out in '72. Without a good backup guitar he was in a bind.

He got a vintage LP, #2, after the '73 US tour. He kept the Norlin though. I think it is the guitar he had turned into a Transperformance guitar. He used that one a lot on the '98 Page/Plant tour for Whole Lotta Love.

I actually like his tone with the Norlin LP. I have heard it in person. Norlin or not be damned, it's a good instrument.

Your facts on #3 are a little off. There is a ton of info here and on the web about the guitar. Too much to post here.

Some cool photos, but only two I would consider "iconic": RR's & Steve Jones'
*edit* & Ace Frehley's
