THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING!
We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and recently moved to a new hosting platform. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
Please support our Les Paul Forum Sponsors with your business - Gary's Classic Guitars, Wildwood Guitars, Chicago Music Exchange, Reverb.com, Throbak.com and True Vintage Guitar. From personal experience doing business with all of them, they are first class organizations. Thank you!
That's odd. You'd think that more folks would be interested in talking about their frets...
I'll get it started: When I buy a Les Paul, if the frets don't please me, I'll refret it with Stew-Mac #141 (.095"x.045") or #154 (.100"x.050"). Not much of a wide fret fan, but I like 'em tall!
I like Dunlop 6105, that is similar to what is used on production and Custom Shop Gibsons nowdays (except the '01 '59 and 58's)
Dan the man told me that Gibson levels their frets with a pneumatic air sander (!), a long one like they use for auto body work. Now I can see why I'm always leveling frets on new Gibsons. That's probably why there is such a variance in fret height on new Gibsons, too.
