Gotoh SD90-SL MG Locking tuners.

So, my trusted '06 R8 has worn out its tuners. I have been wondering a couple of months what to do, then finally decided on the Gotoh SD90 locking ones. I have to say that I'm very pleased. The only regret is that I couldn't find aged ones.
After figuring out that the treble-side tuners work reverse thread (logically when you think about it), they do the job perfectly! (Who reads the instructions anyway... )

Straight fit when removing the original bushings, and gently hammering the new bushings in.

Are these the ones that lock the string as you turn the post, then when locked it brings it up to pitch? I fitted those on a 2015 to replace the dreaded robot tuners and I thought they were great. I liked the fact they were subtle about being locking (you wouldn't know unless you questioned the slot on the top of the post).

As for wanting them aged there's a few methods you could try. It's easier to do them off the guitar which you may not want to do now, but if you're careful and dab on some light acid (e.g. a bathroom cleaner with acid content) or etchant solution with a q-tip then wash off thoroughly once it's reacted you could age them a little. Plenty of guides on YouTube. Or just leave them to tarnish naturally if you don't want to take that risk with an R9!

Yes, they lock as you tune up. Don’t think I’ll bother about the aging . So far, I think they are really great!
