.. very nice R9.. congrats!

All good advice above..
..save your money or buy your mum a nice present..

Bonjour.
My "mum" is long gone but thanks and i am a bit surprised at some of these replies because i was under the impression upgrading pre 2018 historics to better(more accurate) plastics was a very common thing?? Maybe that was just a fad??

They're on their way from Philadelphia luthier? That was one of the first things I did
OK Don't force them on. Make sure they are the right spline count for the pots.
You know how to pull the originals off?

Yes thanks for the info,I ordered the 20 spline(10 on each side) I use this for removing controls knobs https://www.zzounds.com/item--ALPPG...LxwdUGx0yePJYkDO9cXvrXUTgCofzJjhoCvhQQAvD_BwE

Here are the knobs, https://www.philadelphialuthiertool...nobs-with-embossed-numbers-us-set-of-4-amber/

Careful not to dent the top finish with that. If you have trouble with it, just use the tried and true method of a small towel or a rag underneath the knob and pull up.
Thanks i did not know Gibson's nitro was that soft i will just use the towel method.

This is very good info.
If able to choose between the two pots, I'd go for the coarse version. looks like they can withstand more stress from a hectic performer over time.

Generally, the fine splines are for Gibson USA and Custom Shop. The coarse splines are for Epiphones and other import guitars. Also make sure you get embossed numbers and knobs that sit above the guitar body when installed (as opposed to flush with the guitar body when installed).

She's beautiful!!!! She's also accurate in terms of the LPs Gibson is producing today. I do understand where you're coming from, but changing the appointments is not going to change the way she plays or sounds. Of course, she's yours and you can do whatever it is that will make you happy. That's really all that matters.

Congrats, HNGD

and play her in good health!

Just wanted it to cosmetically be as accurate as possible. I will never own a old original so this is all i have and for peace of mind i wanted to at least
change the knobs and rings to the right ones.
when they say non accurate plastics its more like the chemicals they are made out of, the look is pretty much there, we talking about micro shades of white/cream. GUITAR LOOKS KILLER enjoy the hell out of what looks to be a great R9

Beautiful top and fretboard on that one.

It doesn't need any upgrades; however, nice to make 'em so if you want to!

I like the Philly CAB rings and knobs. I've actually used those CAB knobs on non-Gibson guitars, they are not as brittle as the common acrylic knobs, and the CAB knobs are not as slick feeling and easier to grip.

Remember that in 2015 Gibson released the first “True Historic” Les Paul. Edwin Wilson (RIP) researched and developed all the right materials and shapes for the plastic’s, the shape of the pickup covers and the correct way to manufacture them. Injected butyrate pickup rings. Etc.
The knob’s are just like the ‘50’s. Injected and painted using the same paint as they use on the gold tops. There have been many more upgrades to the various parts etc. of the Historic Les Paul through the years but the parts that seem to be troubling you, are probably the closest to original ones around.
I would highly suggest that you go back to the threads regarding the release of the true historics (2015) where there is a good breakdown of the specs for your guitar.

Here are the 59 Parts aged knobs installed. Not sure if they are CAB or not.

They look great! It kind of Irks me that Gibson is just now (as of the 2025 ML's) doing that type of aging to the top hats. Just last year I paid a large amount of cash for a Heavy aged Murphy and the knobs
look too new.🫤
