• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Finally got my first Gibson. Is this normal?

Hello, it's great to meet everyone out there! I just got my first Gibson, a 2013 70's tribute that is in good shape. My question is this: Is it normal to see what appears to be a seam running the length of the neck just under the fret tangs? I know these are hand scraped and I might not be used to that. Could be the grain mismatch making the "effect" of the fingerboard meeting the neck more obvious. Does this look like a re-glued fingerboard or is this completely normal for a Gibson? I'm less worried about the aesthetics than the structural integrity+value. The frets seem to be reasonably level with little to no buzzing @ .060 bass / .040 treble. Truss works effectively and there are no issues with any of the frets around where the neck joins the body. Bear in mind that I am used to Fender and Ibanez guitars. Any and all expertise is much appreciated in advance!

Could be a laminated FB. Hand scrape is only fretboards with binding.

I believe Gibson was laminating fretboards in 2012. I don't see a problem with having a laminated fretboard. It seems like it may be stronger and be less prone to warping? Not sure. Nice guitar though, enjoy.
