Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin
From time to time, I see Les Pauls listed as having a "deep dish top". What exactly does this mean? Have they changed the contour of the top over the years?
In the 1970s especially, Les Pauls had more of a 'dome' top - a smooth domed arch from side to side. The deep dish top has more of a 'belly' that starts about an inch inside the binding. Look at a recent Historic Goldtop reissue and you'll see the 'belly'. (shows more on Goldtop finish than on flametops, though both have the dish)
