THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING!
We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and recently moved to a new hosting platform. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
WE HAVE MOVED THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER! Let us know how it is going! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Reason for my question is that I have my purchase narrowed down to Dave's R4 and a Reissue 68 Flametop Custom. I am able to get the 68 Flametop Custom for $2,400.00. I'm having a tough decision making up my mind. Dave's has everything I want...except the Bigsby. The 68 is gorgeous and sounds incredible. I'm lost.
You do realize the pup difference between the two, right?
The R4 Custom has the alnico neck and p90 bridge, as as opposed to the '68 having two 'buckers. I recently got the chance to play a real '56 Custom. Sounded great, tho the pups needed work. The main thing I would want to know about an R4 (apart from how it sounds/plays with those tiny frets) was how much it weighed. I have heard that the reissues are particularly heavy. The real '56 I played was light as a feather.
Steve
Steve I heard the same thing about the R4 Customs being like bricks. I knew the difference in the pups but have never got to see one in person. I know for a fact I hate tiny frets (I didn't know the R4 had tiny frets..thanks!). This make me lean more and more toward the 68 Reissue Figured Top Custom. The $2,400.00 (IMHO) is a whale of a deal on a brand new one.
