• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

You can't go wrong with a Murphy painted and aged.

I think one other note worthy comparison is a Historic Makeover LP. Played one at Carters Vintage in Nashville a few weeks back. It rivals any CS or CC guitar. Honestly IMHO is the closest you can get to the "feel" of a true burst. Owning a Kossoff, a '16 R8 and several other CS guitars I can say a HM is next on the list.... the hardest thing to decide is which one to send to have it done!

I agree, and the HMs are a very good demonstration of the importance of a proper finish--makes all the difference

Thanks for the update, interesting, lovely looking guitars! I can't really afford, or justify several, or buying and selling. I have a couple of guitars i am selling to purchase a nice custom shop reissue. And i agree and all the above makes sense. In the end, I figure i am going to try a guitar that comes up, and it will just speak to me. Whether that will be a 2018 VOS, or a 2015 True Historic. There is a TH i have tried, that wasn't good, but because it was set up really badly, so need to go back. It has an incredible top to it, and a lovely patina.
But if a 2018 reissue feels better, subjectively, then i would happily spend less. but am definitely drawn towards a TH, the 2015s get great reviews (and i prefer the historically inaccurate knobs!)

Curious, what makes the knobs inaccurate?

... The second LP I picked up was a 2018 custom shop 1958 true historic in VOS. ...

Sorry I don't mean to be pedantic, but I thought Gibson stopped making TH sometime in 2017. I'm genuinely curious. Did I have it wrong?
