• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Here are TWO other bursts Brad W owned and i would have loved to see either over his current guitar as a CC. Just me ? Sure easier to get the top wood for the one they chose HUH.Mike B.

Any Les Paul that's a CC is really a Historic @ double the price. Go to a major guitar show & play 50 used custom shop models. Save $$$$$...you'll find exactly what you want. But, by all means, BUY USED. WAIT for it. The value at buying new IS NOT THERE. By the time you make the necessary mods to your Les Paul, you'll be broke enough.

Find one that feels good & sounds good ACOUSTICALLY. TRY MANY.

A couple years or so ago there was an article on Brad Whitford in Guitar Aficionado that talked about a few of his choice vintage instruments. I don't remember the details of the article, but this is the burst he owns now. I'm going to screw this up, but I believe I recall him saying that sometime around pump? They started making money and could afford guitars again... guess they had to sell almost everything when the band went downhill. All they had were standards.... Perry Margolouff(sp?) met up with Joe and Brad and brought 5 bursts from his collection and told them they should have one and could buy one each for $5000 (I guess that was a good deal at the time? He made it seem so). Joe picked the '60 he has and Brad got this one.

So Joe records Pump with a Superstrat or something (see the Making of Pump video) and it's a huge rock album with dense guitar work and songwriting that rivals Rocks, then he and Brad get Bursts, then they start writing dumb ballads for MTV and never make another decent record. Ok, I'm getting a Charvel.

I saw that video. Same thing with alot of my favorite bands back in the day made their best records on cheap, standard or borrowed gear and they finally had money they sucked.... Pearl Jam is a band that comes to mind. They used Norlins, basic JCM800 Marshalls when they started out. Now they use alot of vintage gear and boutique stuff but I don't care for them anymore.

So far no actual comments from new owners of CC 26? On Youtube there is only one decent video. The new CCs don't seem to sell.

My favorites have been the artist inspired guitars like the Melvin Franks/Green/Moore which would be at the top of my list. Also like the Kossoff, Ed King and Jimmy Page No.1 which may not be a CC model , but I want one. Toss in a Sandy and a Nicky and Im good to go!

CC series guitars are meant to scratch a specific itch. I doubt many (if any) believe they are superior instruments to their standard Historic counterparts.

I would love a CC#1, but the price just isn't worth it to me. Why would I want it? Solely for it's documented affiliation with Peter Green's burst. I wouldn't expect it to feel or play remotely like the original. Just would be fun to own.

I'm very happy with my 2013 R9. It's a CC# *me*

Still, cool to see these CCs come out. Yep, agree with above posts that one of Whitford's flashier bursts might have been more appealing, but meh...who cares really?

When I see the posts on various CC models I compare it to walking through a zoo. I love looking at the alligators, the cheetahs, and the rhinos, but I have no desire to take one home with me. I'm satisfied to just look. See what comes next.

I have a CC#26 Whitford low serial number (<10). I’ve never played or owned a vintage 1959 Les Paul and this is about as close as you can get . I paid <$5k and it’s mint. I have a A True Historic R8 which I like just as much. There are some guys here who own the vintage guitars and play them all the time. For most guys, you will spend you entire life and never be ina same room with one. I like both a lot better then the Les Paul Standard and Traditional.

Bottom line....good idea by Gibson. I was after the Beast but I’m waiting for a good deal. I’m happy.

edit: initially I thought this referred to the eBay sale where Brad sold off 30 guitars and 50 amps. However, there was apparently a prior firesale where all the hit-recording gear were sold off when the band went broke. I remember buying mine in 2009-2011 from Stu at Fat Sounds Guitars. The guy who sold Stu the LP couldn't confirm if it was recorded on any album. All we know is that Brad picked out this les paul (8-9922) from a line of LPs at the Gibson factory. The guitar was one of those sold off in the eBay auction of 2008.

I havent been looking at Les Pauls for a few years ago and didnt realise there was a Collectors Choice released based on one of Brad's guitars as well.
Looking at this one I have and the CC, it sure seems Brad likes his LPs a certain colour.
