I like this thread! The tiny Marshall mini-stack on top of the Leslie at the Cream shows cracks me up! Wish I could remember what he was playing thru the first time I saw him in '82-probably still with the Music Man amps.

Great pics...a couple of those early ones, I've never seen before...it looks like he's playing through the vox's in the Bluesbreaker pics, but if you look closely you can see the early Marshall 4x12 cabs behind him...so of course he's playing through the early Marshall head/cab not the vox...and then of course the bluesbreaker combo after that. Again, cool pics! Thanks for posting.

And its funny much like the other Stones amp thread in that no matter what iron they were

sportin' back in the day, eventually they all end up playin' tweed.

I love all the different EC amp phases, except the Soldano era, ugh... that was pretty rough to listen to.

A lot of the guys were using Soldano in the early to mid '90s weren't they, quite the fashion for a time.

I know, it was a dark period for sure. I remember going to see EC, and a couple of other bands at that time, I think Warren Gaines was in one I saw, I think with Gregg Allman??... and everyone was playing thru those Soldano things. Sounded like bacon frying. Ugh.

That's what he used for recording "From the cradle". I used to like that tone but not anymore.

Now the best EC tone for me is what he currently gets with the '57 Tweed twins (since mid 00s).

Warren still sounds like that to me, or always did. Hard for me to get into The Brothers with him in the band playing long solos..:dang

I hear you. I've never been able to get next a lot of modern player's tones. It's kind of a short circuit in my brain though, or a prejudice... the minute I see a pedal board in front of a guitar player, they're done... for me anyway. Same with high gain amps... and technique. I like to hear guitar players that sound like they're playing with boxing gloves on, or locked in mortal combat with their guitars, like Little Milton's early '50's stuff recorded at Sun, in Memphis.

I've got to agree with you......maybe not a prejudice but just the understanding of better things, better ways.
One of my sons said to me years ago when I had my 2x12 Silver Jub........why don't you use the high gain switcher.....he liked that sound..............aaargh:lol
