THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING!
We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and recently moved to a new hosting platform. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
WE HAVE MOVED THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER! Let us know how it is going! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin
Please support our Les Paul Forum Sponsors with your business - Gary's Classic Guitars, Wildwood Guitars, Chicago Music Exchange, Reverb.com, Throbak.com and True Vintage Guitar. From personal experience doing business with all of them, they are first class organizations. Thank you!
I'll make it brief:
93-98: all made to the same specs for the most part, the top carve varied a bit. All used modified lacquer. The best tops were from this era.
99: Totally retooled, Murphy trained a guy to spray these, that is why the bursts look different.
00: Headstock changed ever so slightly, McQwire back in the spray booth. Otherwise pretty much the same as '99
01: Smaller frets, red side dots, changed inlays, lightweight tail, darker fingerboards for the most part. The headstock changed in shape again.
...pickups and electronics are very bad compared to aftermarket parts...so they could easily be improve.
...but the guitar itself is stunning, very resonnant and impressive when played with good pickups and pots, so i guess maybe they will concentrate their efforts on this area and some irrelevant details for "acuracy"
...just my 2 cents...:guy
