Excellent purchase! I watched a lot of reviews of various Klon clones and a lot of them said the Soul Food was very good and incredible value. I have a J Rocket Archer that I found for a good deal second hand but I'm sure blind folded I couldn't hear the difference between yours and mine. I really like the circuit, especially having the tone control to help it work with different amps but it's pretty much my go-to physical boost/overdrive.

I have the Archer as well and like it a lot- the first guitar pedal my wife ever bought for me and she hit the nail.
I also have a Way Huge Super over rated special- also a good pedal- in the same zip code as the Archer FWIW. I use it to boost everything - dirty or clean.

I have the Overrated Special too but my understanding is that's more of a Tubescreamer circuit. Either way I don't find it as useful, in fact I have rarely used it and considering it's a limited edition with some nice JB badges, etc. I should probably sell it!

I got a cheap no-name pedal from DHgate that does a real convincing Klon sound!

It really is close and a great compliment to my Keeley modded Blues Driver.

Klones are fine. Everybody has a favorite and usually works for them.

My Klones: I got a 'B-Stock' Warm Audio WA-CV Centavo Klone, a Ceriatone HorseBreaker Centura Klone + BluesBreaker [dual, in one box], and the recent JHS NOTAKLÖN DIY.

==> They all do the thing <==

-- The WA looks the part i.e. big box bought on sale. Hard to complain.

-- The HorseBreaker is great to cascade, stack and has an order switch. Highest quality. Almost bought the RYRA instead, but wanted the BluesBreaker.

-- The JHS is a deal for $99, mine is from the 1st batch so didn't experience the long wait from the oversubscribed pre-order. I can see why a long wait would diminish the 'deal' factor.

...

Oh, and yes, I don't have the original...

But I have the Klon KTR...

I sometimes use the Tumnus for a Klon klone. But mainly I use Brian May boosters into AC30s at full volume (attenuated). The small KAT is for hooking onto the strap for wireless use. The treble booster always has to be the first thing in the chain. The three Fryer boxes use different components to reflect what tone BM used at various stages in Queen. The 3-in-1 "Classic" just puts these 3 tones in one pedal. Only annoyance with that one is there's no easy battery slot so you have to unscrew the bottom.

My favourite is the Pro-Twin which has a large selection of tones for each booster, and has two boosters to do...some Brian May stuff. Not really sure what :-D To me, the first booster gives the overdrive and the second high passes a bit for clarity.

I tend to keep things in their categories, so the BM stuff is used with AC30s and the Red Special, while the Tumnus is used with the Gibsons.

Had a Soul Food and enjoyed it. Ended up throwing it in as a sweetener on a trade deal. I figured they're easy enough to find on the used market.

Owned several Archers and they were also good. I prefer the silver over the gold. Right now I have a Rockaway but it suddenly got noisy so I'm not using it much. I should probably send it back in so they can figure out what's wrong with it.

I just ordered a Klone of Tone from Chris at CMC Effects. I was running one of the MXR Duke pedals in front of the Archer and like the idea of combining the two pedals in a dual drive. We'll see.

I have a Bad Cat Siamese Drive, which is supposedly two Klones in one pedal. It sounds great, but I wish it was possible to switch between the two circuits instead of stacking them.

Slightly off topic, but lately I've been using my Box of Rock pedal as it is one of the few that keeps the low and high end in tact. It works best for medium gain levels. It has a post distortion clean boost which works very well in front of my Soul Food.
