Has anyone researched what the best pedals are for retaining the TONE of your amp while on/off?

Distortion
Wah
Reverb/Delay
Phase
Volume

Thanks!

hmmmm

pt59 thats a tough one-i would say sansamps classic and gt2 only cause i'm biased that way;lol-but they are much more active than i think youre talking about-the maxon od 808 is super sweet-ibanez ad99 for delay-smooth and fat,a little loss of high end but i think that is normal for an analog delay-phaser orig 70's mxr phase 90-think vh "atomic punk"-volume-no clue---wah pedal-let me know what you find because i have a 535q dunlop but it is too colored in some respects but very versatile-all of these i use gigging on a regular basis so im going by live tone and not recording

Yeah, I have the Sans Amp pedal. That would be one to leave on all the time. It has it's own agenda as we owners know. EVERY delay including the Ampeg analog one I have right now rips out the top end when not in use. The delay/reverb is going to be the hardest to find.

I can live with the 808 coloring when not in use. It isn't very audible live. Plus the "ON" tone is organic and transparent.

Does anyone plug into their pedals(off) then plug straight in and get the same tone? Why can't we have that in this day and age?

I really cant tell a difference when plugged in with the pedals "off"-take for instance my 69 super bass-no difference at all,BUT i run it clean so no distortion there to hear much of a difference-let me know what you find-:)spin

Well your basically using your super bass as a power amp. Not that this is a bad thing. The tech 21 gear is really just a good fron-end preamp. I am looking for something a little more organic. I run my 18 watt blockhead...at higher volume you don't need any gain. A gain pedal will just compress really at that level. So I could eliminate that pedal. But for lower volumes it is nice to have a little kick sometimes.

Distortion - I don't use distortion pedals, but I know the Line 6 Distortion Modeler is true bypass.

Wah - I just bought a Teese RMC-2, which is true bypass.

Reverb/Delay - I have a Line 6 Delay Modeler that I love. The only time I heard any signal degradation was when it was in sample mode.

Phase - I have the (here we go again) Line 6 Modulation Modeler. Also true bypass

Volume - I don't use one, but I know of a lot of people who use the Ernie Ball pedal.

Even though my pedals are true bypass, I did hear degradation even there were only thow pedals in my path. Much less than with most analog pedals, but enough to bug me into buying a VHT Valvulator 1.

I've found that the Fulltone Fat Boost replaces ALL of the high end removed by my effects.
I run Vox wah > FDll > Fat Boost > Deja Vibe > Line 6 DL4(delay modeler) >
Framptone amp switcher >

There is a noticeable high end loss if I immediately run directly into whatever amp(s) I'm using. Especially the Blackface Fenders. The fat boost is left on all the time.

The wah always seems to be the major "tone killer"

Yeah, the Wah will get you too. I remember going through 5 crybabys until I found one that sound as good off as it did on. Then the pot wears out and your back to square one.

Teese and Fulltone wahs are true bypass. Fulltone sells a kit to make any Crybaby or Vox wah true bypass.
As far as volume pedals go, they're always in the signal path, but the best are the Ernie Balls and the (discontinued) Visual Sounds.
Every other device I have is Fulltone or Line6, both of which use true bypass for all their effects.

Pedals

I've had good luck with Fulltone stuff... I'm addicted to the "Fat Boost" pedal :dude ... especially for Fenders, I leave it on all the time with a Strat or Tele. I turn it off with Gibsons for rhythm and use it as a clean boost for solos.

Just got a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 and a Clyde wah. The Clyde sound so good it's insane, the Fulldrive 2 works great with blackface stuff... haven't used it with Marshall's yet... Marshall's sound too good going straight in.

All of Mr. Fuller's pedals have "true bypass" too... seems to help the "tone sucking" problem when not in use. :)
