• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Maybe my memory isn't as bad as I thought? :laugh2:

I remember trying to scrape the binding (just one little spot) on mine to try and get it to look white again like Frampton's. In reality, the binding hadn't "aged", it was supposed to be that color.

What an idiot I was/am!

Heheh...I must admit, I thought about doing that to my old historic, but nowadays I am a fan of the yellowing :dude:

Hey Z,

Saw this on a jazz form that I'm a member of and I thought you might want to see for it's LP content. I'm not good at dating, but I'd say this might be a '54, or a '55 or it could even be one of the '70s Limited Editions? It definitely has "Fretless Wonder" frets on it.

Very cool guitar in that video, MB... :yah

I see the three inlays are 50s, plus the bonnet knobs on this one put it is sometime in '55-early '57, I'd say. :)

I knew you'd be able to tell!

So the "Fretless Wonder" frets made it into '57?

Man, that thing is GORGEOUS! What a beautiful sound it has too!

There's nothing wrong with that 345 either!

Did all 50ies Customs come in the black case, or were some sold with brown cases as well?
The reissues I've seen so far all seem to have the brown case.

Very good question, :)

I have seen photos of PAF Black Beauties in the odd brown Lifton case here and there, but that is very, very rare, and it is hard to say if they really came with a brown Lifton originally.

All the photos of Alnico BBs I've ever seen had them in the "Faultless" black case with yellow interior.

:salude Cool, thanks for the reply!
Are there any manufacturers currently producing a case like that? I guess one could get a 70ies Gibson case, which looks similar and should not be too expensive or hard to find. :hmm
