My guess is: Refin or clear overspray (too shiny finish), repaired headstock (black paint on back of headstock) & price too good to be original w/o issues..

In my opinion (get ready) all the asking prices on Reverb.comin for 1960/1-1964/5 Gibson SGs with humbuckers, customs included, would make reasonable sales prices if they were cut in half.

There is NO WAY a classic era SG is a $30k - $25k guitar. Not even if it’s “near mint”. The asking prices seem appropriate for custom color SGs!

Gibson produced approximately 1500 SG standards every year from 1961-1965. That’s about 7500 SGs. They’re not rare. I could go on…

Sold my mint 62' SG with a sideways /pafs to one of the top dealers in the US for 30k a year ago.... Just sayin'... I agree that the examples on Reverb now are overpriced for what they are.
This is the best one available now but I think a good selling price for this is around 20k IMO.

Indeed, mint is mint -- which can also be read as mint = $$!
But for anything less than mint, the price drops off considerably.

And wow, that '65 SG is just about as mint as mint can be! It's like no one ever played it!
(I think $20k is a very fair, if not good, price for it.)

I'm not crazy about the weather checking, but a 20k offer outside of Reverb might land that guitar. I did a similar deal with my mint 64' and it worked...?
