Original, ok - but when it's not working and causing performance issues, its gotta go.

Tech could try opening and repairing the pot, there are also NOS wiper tracks on the market if that would be the cause. Or you could swap out the volume with the tone pot you are using the least.

Swapping the Tone pots to the Volume and rewiring it as 50s crossed my mind. If VIPot ever come back in stock, I may consider just dropping in a new harness and preserving the originals.

Update:
So I got really fed up with the the rapid volume issue. I pulled the harness out (Switch, Jack and all) and stored it away safely in a ag with a silica pack. I ordered some vintage style 550k Audio Taper pots, .02 PIO Caps, Switchcraft switch and jack and rewired a new harness. I really enjoy 50s wiring so I did it up that way.

I popped it all back in and I wish I did this sooner.. Nearly perfect taper, not as subtle as my 56 or 69, but a dramatic improvement. Along with the regret, new wider spaced nut, this guitar is a ripper. If I was a studio player or touring pro, I probably could do everything with this 335 and my Tele..

That's a lot of whining over normal operation of a Gibson guitar.

Ouch, Im starring at 5 old Gibsons in my collection and none of them had as severe on off volume taper as my 66' 335.

If all Gibsons rapidly turned the volume down from an 8 and down, Id never play a Gibson
