58 Reissue Cherry Burst--Bad Photo?

R8-CSB.jpg

Is this what a Cherry Burst Historic looks like? Or is the red naturally amplified/distorted in this photo? To me, this looks like a cheesey color scheme...

Thoughts?? It's for sale around $2400! (It's an '01)

If Fred, the self-appointed Cheif of Guitar Police Commissioner, were to see this, he'd promptly call it a Clownburst and lay down one of his famous procolamations.

But for another 500 bucks you can get it refinned by Murphy.;)

Yeah! "Clown Burst"!

The top isnt nice enough to get a Murphy refin! Didn't know it was only $500 to get Murphy-ized though!

Why does Gibson create Clown Bursts on all but their R9's?

Hey, if you don't like it,. you can buy it and change it, buy it and live with it, or not buy it.

Someone out there thinks that's what he's been looking for for decades. Let HIM buy it if you don't like it.

True Ed...

I guess it's all about personal preferences.

Not my cup of tea (or red)!

Not mien either. But someone out there just loves the hell out of them, or Gibson wouldn't be making them.;)
And the Mayoral Proclamation is second in import, power, and influence only to that of Fred's Proclamation, so there you go.

The pictures I saw of RICH's syrup burst hotcakes were more appealing. ;)

Gratefully thats not what all the 10 R9s look like. I love the look of my 01 R9, and someone will come by and wanna give that one some love as well. $2500 is a sweet deal. A few weeks in the sun, some tapped antiuqities and a quick JP LP wire job and that sucker would kill!

Sun....?

So you think if I buy this clownish R8, and put it in my window in the sun, it may fade into a nicer, R9 looking burst??

How long would that take? I think the guy is down to $2300!

:eek

Maybe. but i dunno how long it would take. A year? A Decade? 40 years?
interstingly, if a guitar's gonna fade, it's gonna do it in the first year. By 1963, most of the old 'bursts that faded were already fading badly.

Ugly clownburst

A friend of mine owns a 1960 burst that has the original finish & it is as ugly as that, it has not faded much in 41 years & has a plain top . It does sound good though, Gibson produced many soso looking bursts in the "58 to 60" era .The Brockbursts were few & far in between.

so how does one go about getting in touch with Murphy? Does anyone know how long it takes to get a refin by him?

Do a search on here for Guitar Preservation. His contact info's been listed here more than a few times, even recently.
Last time I talked to anyone whohad a top redone by Tom, it took from October to January or thereabouts.
