I have one coming this week.. I'll let you and everybody else know after I plink on it a bit... I'm of course expecting to hear the angels sing, but that's just me.. I hear 'em anyway..

A close friend of mine works at the Memphis facility. I think he told me all the ES series guitars are being built there. If he was involved in your guitar Dave, it will be a beauty and it should sing. He is totally and fanatically devoted to the art of guitar building and really knows his stuff when it comes to tone woods.

They didn't seem any different to me than the old custom shop made ones to be honest.

Oh Oh...

Dave what is your opinion on the older Historic 335?...

The '99s that I played, I thought sounded pretty good overall,
not quite as lively as a real 59 of course, but not bad overall.

Now I KNOW you've played the '01s so give it up, dude!! :dude

I played some of the '99 historic 335's that were real nice. The new Memphis ones are just as good to me. Is there something I'm missing?

No not at all... I was curious as to your overall feelings about Historic 335s in general, new and old.. Your previous post didn't sound one way or the other..

Hey I wouldn't mess with da Mayor.. I've been run outta town before.. ;) ;)

For those just tuning in: In all fairness Dave was gracious enough to check out my 335 for me in some of his spare time when he was at Dave's a week or so ago.. He gave me his honest opinion, and for this I am grateful.. He definitely saved me some coin..

Steve has a '58 335, and the necks on the historics are much fatter IMO.

I have a 98' ES 335 from nashville and I love it every bit as much as the Y2K R9 I have. I find the finish a little thicker than the R9's, the head stock on my 335 has a more pronounced taper, the neck is slightly smaller than my R9 and my tone knobs do not have the historically accurate pointer washers like the newer ones. I think the 335 feel more comfortable against your body, but the R9's sound and record better live.

I know this is a total "weenie" observation to make, but it looks like they are now painting the Historic 335 sunbursts with the correct contour around the neck pickup. No big deal, but it looks cool.
