• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

It looks like a great example. As for price, I'm at a loss. Prices have been going up, as of late. I own a '74 Standard and don't want to appear to inflate prices, however, I can tell you that I've recently seen asking prices up to the six and seven thousand dollar range for really clean and completely original examples from this period and from Kalamazoo like this. As you have noted, this has a couple of replacement parts, so that just adds to the price uncertainty. I'm a lot of help, huh? Let's just say I wouldn't be the least bit ashamed to own and play that guitar!

I appreciate the insight Bob. I've seen some of those six/seven thousand priced ones out there. This one seems to be one of the lower priced one in its condition of the lot that I can find. Sure, it's not 100% original, but sure is tempting.

weird color to the binding in places.

Yeah, I noticed as well. I'm not too bothered by it. Just adds a little character :hank

All looks good to me . As far as the binding goes it looks like it was more yellowed and then cleaned unevenly . As far as the parts go the barrel speed knobs are fine , but i don't like the single color black plastic jack cover , which is easily replaceable with for instance a gold one or a 3 ply https://www.creamtone.com/products/...k-jack-plate-historic-vintage-gibson-les-paul. Over all i think it's a nice Les Paul and i would rock it in a heartbeat . Price i think is decent as well , as the prices are all over the place .

It looks to have gone, did you buy it?

My LPC from '72 has uneven coloured binding where it was refined and the binding was scraped with slightly less attention to detail than Gibson train for. Not suggesting this has had a refin, perhaps it's more recent wear.

Thanks for the input guys. I ended up pulling the trigger. Once it arrives I'll check it out of course and put up some pics. I'll be sure to get some binding shots as well to further assess. I feel pretty good about it and can't wait to play it :yah

Thanks Gringo. I do like the older speed knobs but may seek out some period correct witch hats at some point. Maybe even a brass jack plate too. I like those a little better than the plastic ones, but not that big of a deal. I can't wait to get this thing!

Yeah man! That's what I'm hoping for. I've owned other customs, '78, '79, '81, '83, and a '19 57RI. All different and something to appreciate in each, but I've sold them all. I'm really hoping this one is finally the keeper I've been after!

Awesome! I didn't comment earlier in case you missed out on it but I think the price seems pretty good. Certainly by UK standards something that clean would run for far more money. Let's not forget you've just bought a super clean Kalamazoo made Les Paul!

Looking forward to seeing more pics and hopefully hearing it in action. My 72 comparatively is a dog - neck break, refin, replaced pickup and some pots. One thing original is the witch hats - the previous owner put reflectors on there but I immediately switched them back for the original vibe.

I would liked to have found a cheaper one, but in the current market I just don't think that would be possible for the condition. I was able to get a little bit of a break from the seller, and overall I'm happy with the deal. I do think there is a different feel to the Kalamazoo guitars. The old '78 custom I had was a Kalamazoo make and definitely a different animal than others I've had. It's the reason I wanted another Kalamazoo one after all!

I'm sure yours is no dog at all! Sounds like it's got tons of mojo. I'll be sure to get those pics up asap!

I think you got a great deal. Prices over here are insane for clean ones. I'm at least pleased my Kalamazoo one was still cheaper most modern LPCs I see for sale.

The irony is the case with mine is in incredibly good condition and yet yours looks beaten up. Maybe we should swap :laugh2:

I bought what was being sold as a ‘72 LPC a while back. After discussion here, it ended up being a late ‘74 even though the pot codes were from ‘72. I really wanted a ‘69, but the price had climbed out of reality at the time. The bottom line was wanting a Kalamazoo LPC and this filled the ticket. It’s been a great guitar, I’m sure you will enjoy yours as well.
