1971 Gibson SG Standard cracks question

Hi there,

As I'm new to this forum I'll start by a quick introduction.

I grew up in France andspent quite a lot of time at my dad's musical instruments shop in my childhood just because I felt comfortable there. It might be while playing Tony Hawk on the Playstation that I heard a song called« TNT » by an Australian band I didn't know too much about by then. I then remember watching on the family computer a downloaded version of AC/DC's Live in Donington. Though I wondered what happened to the voice of the singer (I would only later learn that Bon Scott had died and was replaced by Brian Johnson), I got really impressed by the Young brothers and a short while after that started playing the guitar. My first electric one was a Storm SG, meaning a cheap replica of the original model, followed a few years later by a 2000 Gibson Standard. This particular guitar sat unused under a bed for about 15 years before the owner sold it to my dad. I remember getting out of the bathroom and not understanding how it was possible that the Storm SG (with a small pickguard) that was on my bed a few minutes earlier could have turned into my dream guitar (with the batwing one). I think it was one of the most beautiful days of my life. Some 20 years later, after having bought, sold and played many guitars, the 2000 Std is still with me and AC/DC is still one of my favorite bands.

That being said, I have recently set eyes on a beaten up albeit beautiful 1971 SG Standard quite similar to the one that Angus used in the early days of AC/DC. As many SGs of this era this particular one has two cracks, one by the input jack and the other one by the heel. The seller, which is a professional, told me that both have been professionaly repaired along time ago and have no impact on the playability of the instrument. I trust him but I thought I'd double check with you as the guitar is literally the other side of the planet so I won't have a chance to try it before I decide whether or not to pull the trigger. Could you please help me with this one ?
Attached are pictures of the whole guitar first and of the two cracks then.

With many thanks,

Matthias

priced right, I wouldn’t hesitate..my ‘69 standard has a similar crack repair. I’ve owned it for five years or so with no issues.

Thank you very much for your very helpful comments ! I didn't talk about the price as I wasn't sure the forum rules allowed it but here we go ! The seller is asking for something around 5000 eur/us, which on general agreement is quite overpriced, but is open to reasonable offers.

For that price I would probably go with a new Custom Shop SG. Too bad they don’t have the batwing pick guard.

Not saying custom shop's are bad guitars, but there is good reason Angus plays this exact guitar today albeit repainted black. If it is solid and the neck crack is just in the finish and doesn't follow any grain and it plays and sounds good I don't think you can go wrong.
