• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Let’s see your most convincing looking reissue!

My old 2001 Murphy R9 Plaintop, currently revisiting. Note to self - pretend you're not in when the owner comes back for it.

I agree, now if the Lester on the right had less Vibrant Cherry or it had faded more it would also be a dead ringer for a Vintage Burst ?

IMNSHO, it's too flamey, almost a quilt top. Not a lot of those in the vintage years. Gladys is similar in flame width, but it's more "organic" looking and not quite quilty.

Here's Gladys (1959) on the left next to my traditional make over:

You have to really look at Dan's HM- which was the first in Kim L's "presidential" series- called Washington. The finish on a well-played vintage burst (I haven't seen it on GT- on some BB) polishes to a very glassy high gloss. In addition to the wood, HM just killed this one. Tremendous focus on detail.
They must have gotten into 5000+ grit on the polishing.
BTW- Wilko you owe us a pic here.

It's funny to me that as soon as I typed my response I knew right away the comments would come that it was to modern looking as far as the figuring . I am guilty of wanting more figuring always and i am such a top whore that it is not even funny . I guess there are worse things .
