Hey Mike, is 9-0850 the Lucido burst? If so, what a ridiculous guitar. I usually not a huge-flametop guy, but that top is so diabolical it could make a believer.

Shred, I think I may have gigged with you guys at a benefit Ronn Dunnett helped put together a couple years back. Good to see some folks from my neck of the woods. I was late to the party, but killer advice and contributions on here.

Thanks for the photos, Mike; truly is a monster guitar. Dangerous photos, though. I'm hoping to land a relatively plain player's burst or (likely) a refin by the time I'm 30, and the last thing I need on my mind are outrageous maple tops!

I bought my first burst when i was around 32-33. A mild curl 1960 killer clean -got it from Vic and thought i was nuts and crazy for spending 12K on an old guitar.Juniors were 3-4 hundred then.Good luck and happy hunting that is 1/2 the fun.M.B.below 0-1065 my first

Gorgeous first 'burst :salude I've had the pleasure of getting my hands on over a dozen bursts now, and it really does set the bar. Definitely some magic in those old beauties...I've played a few historics and replicas that sound/play unbelievably well, but nothing has come close to the better 'bursts I've tried. It's always frustrating trying to explain to someone who just doesn't 'get it', and judging by those on LPF, I'm sure there is a whoooole lot that I still don't 'get'.

Gotta say...your refin looks great. Based on the prices I've seen around, a refin seems like a smart way to get into the burst world these days.

Didn't mean to get so off topic...some of these Murphys really do look outstanding.

Except for those who don't

So are you eventually gonna pry Vic's CC 9 away from him and how does that top compare to your 2013 in person?

Hey Shred, I was playing my 2008 R8 w/RS True Vintage control kit. Been thinking about Rolphs or Throbaks lately. Every time I go to swap out the pickups I find a new guitar/amp to purchase, and keep putting it off. I'm purchasing a couple vintage Fenders this summer (I know, I know) but I've got my eyes on a recent R8-R9 for next year. Been loving the fades I've seen.

Cool, nice colour... The ES335 and the EDS look great too. Thanks for posting them.

BTW What era are the Fenders you're looking at? I had a bunch of early 70's Strats because of Yngwie, but I never really jived with them. The earliest Fender I've owned was a 67 Tele, but I traded it for a R9 :eek:le

I'm purchasing a 1960 Stratocaster that was refinished black in the mid 60's. Killer patina and unreal tone. I plan on absolutely rocking that guitar live every chance I get.

The other one is a '75 Starcaster in unbelievable original condition (although I do need to source a pickguard, which is gonna be a hell of a challenge) with some strange features. It's got a factory mini-toggle and the WR humbuckers connect to the harness with RCA plugs. I've talked to dozens of experts, and had a great chat with Gene Fields, who designed the instrument (as well as the 2nd version of the Marauder prototype). Everybody seems to indicate that it's either a prototype or very, very early in the production run.

As far as the 70's Fenders go, you're absolutely right in stating that they were average. Of course, you can find shining examples, but almost all of the 3-bolt strats I've played have left lots to be desired. I've got a '73 Telecaster that I really dig, but I lucked out in that it's rather light for a guitar made in that period. I've played some real boat anchors.

Based on your collection, I'm assuming you prefer Gibson to Fender. Instead of a burst, how do you feel about GT's, Customs and Conversions?

Well, a burst is definitely my goal. I'm 21 now, and plan on owning a burst (refin or not, but original parts) by the time I'm 30. I'm very well on track at this point, as I've built up a sizable collection by spending every penny I've made performing live (since 11 years old) on gear. I've definitely considered the fact that it's likely I'll own a GT or 50's custom before a burst, as a stepping stone to my end goal. I've seen some GTs/Customs sell for prices where it would make lots of sense to purchase and then sell for a healthy profit, getting me closer to burst territory. That said, arguably the best neck I've ever felt was on a '57 GT, and while I'm shooting for a burst, it would be a little naive to say in certain terms that I'd sell a particularily special 50's GT if I were to buy one. You never know what will just grab you.

As far as conversions go, I'm not opposed to owning one for a while if it was done well, but I definitely want to end up with an original guitar. I have heard conversions that sound absolutely monstrous, but I know that deep inside I'd remain unsatifsied if that's the guitar I stuck with. As a collector/friend said to me, it would quench my thirst for 50's wood, but it would whet my appetite even more.

At this point in my life all I need are young women and old guitars. Hope the rumours are true, good on ya Shred :salude Lawd, women and guitars are a hell of a combo. I've heard women and buying guitars are a different story altogether.

Yes, it's a true and ultimately very sad story... As you've noticed, I haven't been hanging around the LPF as much lately... It's like they say, 'no matter how hot a girl is, somewhere out there she's driving some poor guy nuts.' But I digress... It all started out so well... Spring in Paris, romantic dinners, listening to Yngwie albums by candlelight (as you can see by her 'attributes,' she is obviously a huge fan of shred guitar).

Anyway, she got a new bike and started spending all her free time at a local 'cycling club.' Then one fateful day she came back from 'cycling' and said she'd met some guy with 'great legs.' :dang

Anyone know this guy

I don't have a guitar aged by Murphy, but I do have one aged by Gibson. Does that count?
