I don't have a guitar aged by Murphy, but I do have one aged by Gibson. Does that count?

Indeed it does... Mike B opened this thread up to any guitar a LPF bro wants to post...

Well, a burst is definitely my goal. I'm 21 now, and plan on owning a burst (refin or not, but original parts) by the time I'm 30. I'm very well on track at this point, as I've built up a sizable collection by spending every penny I've made performing live (since 11 years old) on gear. I've definitely considered the fact that it's likely I'll own a GT or 50's custom before a burst, as a stepping stone to my end goal. I've seen some GTs/Customs sell for prices where it would make lots of sense to purchase and then sell for a healthy profit, getting me closer to burst territory. That said, arguably the best neck I've ever felt was on a '57 GT, and while I'm shooting for a burst, it would be a little naive to say in certain terms that I'd sell a particularily special 50's GT if I were to buy one. You never know what will just grab you.

As far as conversions go, I'm not opposed to owning one for a while if it was done well, but I definitely want to end up with an original guitar. I have heard conversions that sound absolutely monstrous, but I know that deep inside I'd remain unsatifsied if that's the guitar I stuck with. As a collector/friend said to me, it would quench my thirst for 50's wood, but it would whet my appetite even more.

At this point in my life all I need are young women and old guitars. Hope the rumours are true, good on ya Shred :salude Lawd, women and guitars are a hell of a combo. I've heard women and buying guitars are a different story altogether.

If you can get hold of a burst in any condition --at any time of your life-- you've done well. I will say I think the burst mystique is overrated. Of course, I've never owned a burst, but when you look at the burst killer thread and read TW and a Mike B's impressions, you get some excellent perspective on burst ownership. At the end of the day, they are all just guitars. Maybe really excellent guitars, but guitars nonetheless.

I've given up on my burst dreams as it were, and been concentrating on Historics --although I still have a couple Norlins.... Good luck with the chase :salude

Everytime I see Rossington 113 I think it's one of the most eye catching Lesters on the planet - just fantastic.

Gorgeous first 'burst :salude I've had the pleasure of getting my hands on over a dozen bursts now, and it really does set the bar. Definitely some magic in those old beauties...I've played a few historics and replicas that sound/play unbelievably well, but nothing has come close to the better 'bursts I've tried. It's always frustrating trying to explain to someone who just doesn't 'get it', and judging by those on LPF, I'm sure there is a whoooole lot that I still don't 'get'.

Gotta say...your refin looks great. Based on the prices I've seen around, a refin seems like a smart way to get into the burst world these days.

Didn't mean to get so off topic...some of these Murphys really do look outstanding.

Hey man. I've been meaning to ask you about your burst experience. How'd you manage to play a dozen burts? Did you go to Arlington? Any 'famous' ones or any that really stood out to you?

I've been gigging since I was 9 years old, and started collecting when I was 11. I would always try to hit every guitar shop/show, and generally had great experiences - it seemed that most stores/owners were pleased to give a really young player who knew a bit about vintage gear an experience with a hallowed instrument - and as a result have been able to play most of the guitars I dream about.

Most recently, I had a wonderful experience upstairs at Gruhn's a couple years ago, where they had 6 or 7 bursts. They were very welcoming and (though it was very clear I didn't/don't have burst money) they let me play each burst and a number of 50's GTs/customs. There was one in particular that really blew me away. In hindsight I was I had grabbed the serial number - not that I think I'm going to be owning an original finish burst any time soon/ever. I played another burst in Pomona a few years ago, and another on Staten Island (first one I ever touched, when I was 12 or 13). They really do have something special about them...they're the Stradivarius of the electric guitar.

Here's the one that stood out as the $250K monster player with endless tone:

Shred, I think you'll dig this one. It's a 2007 R9 that I would love to send to HM if I didn't already have too many irons in the oven. It's currently at the Langley TLM. Reminds me quite a bit of 9-1898!

Cool. Thanks... I was wondering if there was a vault full of bursts around here I didn't know about

Great pic. Hopefully you'll eventually get to own/gig a really great playing burst as your main guitar. Btw that R9 has a pretty wild top on it... Thanks for posting it :dude:

I wish! I only know one burst owner around here, personally. He's not keen on taking it out of the vault all that often.

I'm sure I would have purchased that guitar if the neck hadn't been shaved down. I'd love to keep it around until I could afford to send it to Kim. Too many Fender purchases right now!

What's your favourite historic?
