John, great photos! I`ve got photos (back in LA) of Syl playing live with his Ibanez Rocket Roll V, and the thigh-high red patent leathers. Also, a live photo of Cub Coda looking cool-as-shit, rocking-out with his lawsuit Ibanez Destroyer and flamed silver suit...in frnt of his Marshall stacks, don`t cha know! ;) Sorry I can`t post the pics here today for you.

Speaking of the Dolls, I lost touch with Arthur after moving from W. Hollywood (we lived in the same building). Anyone know how he`s doing? He was going through really tough times last time we talked.

ps; love the Stooges, and love my `75 Destroyer prototype! rock!

Arthur went through a particularly bad period after receiving a bad beating some years ago but lately was much recovered and participated enthusiastically at the Dolls Reunion shows at Royal Festival Hall. Sadly shortly after on July 13 2004 Arthur died from undiagnosed leukemia.

Huge Stooges fan here! Great pics in this thread and the presence of Nitebob is mind boggling...

Pretty damned excited to know that james will be rejoining Iggy and the Stooges for tour dates. It's all good news!

And for the rrecord, my original copy of "Raw Power" is pressed very quiet. The recording is crazy loud, but the pressing isn't .
you have to turn it up, up. UP to smell all the dope on that record, but it's worth iit.

Iggy's remix was mastered painfully loud though, it was the loudest CD I'd heard up to that point-distorted from the word go.

Just relistened to The Stooges "Raw Power" and found an article on the net where James Williamson talks about recording the album with his Les Paul through a Vox AC30.

This album must display the brashest, roughest Les Paul tones I've ever heard...! The rough recording quality and mixing desk distortion only adds to the effect. "Search & Destroy" in particular takes your breath away with it's energy.

Those guys must have been dosed up on amphetamines when they recorded this album.

Anyone else dig "Raw Power"...?

I love all of the Stooges stuff, including the new album.

Hello,
The day James Williamson returns to the stage, I finish a 3 month tour in of all places...Detroit. I wish i could be there. I hear they are video taping the show. The shows I did with James and the Stooges in New York City and Detroit were really early in my career, and I remember them like they were yesterday. James Williamson was great to work with, and a great guy. He let me copy tapes that Michael Tipton made of the Michigan Palace shows, and early mixes of Kill City when I lived in LA in 1976.

James probably had as much of an influence on me as a guitar player as anybody. It's so cool he's playing again, I didn't think I would ever see this happen. From the sounds of it he hasn't lost anything.

Awesome. I was a little bummed when I saw The Stooges at Little Steven's Underground Garage Festival 'cause they didn't play any Raw Power era tunes. Now I'll get to hear them!

Hey John,

I am very interested in these images for a project I am working on. Do you have more? Can I email you?
Thanks!
Arielle

I am a HUGE Stooges fan. To my twisted little mind Raw Power is still the greatest Rock 'n Roll album ever recorded. Other albums may be more artful but that genuine full frontal assault led by Williamson can not be topped IMO. I saw the "Raw Power" Stooges in around early 1973 in Toronto at the Victory Burlesque Theatre, this was one of the last dates to support that album. It's locked in my head as one of the best gigs I've ever seen. I've still got the photos i took that night so for the Stooges fans out there, here's a taster.

Re: Stooges gear

Hello,
When I was working for the Stooges in 1973, the backline was rented locally, and the drumkit was carried from show to show, along with the guitars. Most of the time on the east coast, we used SUNN gear. James used a Model T, that also was connected to a SUNN Coloseun 300 watt transistor slave amp, driving 4 SUNN 4X12 cabs.

It was LOUD!!!

nitebob
The best Bass Amp I ever used was a Sunn 250 RAmS with 2-18" Eminence Speakers. I used it for a jazz band concert in a huge gymnasium, and ZI could have out-powered the whole band. Sunn is awesome!
