• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I have 2 ES and 1 LP all with Custombuckers. Love them! I never thought I'd be looking for a pickup swap.

But I'm soon going to get a new LP with Custombuckers and am wondering if I might like to mod my R9. So I'm looking for replacement pickups that would sound markedly different from the CBs. With a lot of mid-range. So, I'm not looking for the most articulate or wide spectrum options. Honk for crunchy use. I may even try installing one the wrong way round to get the out of phase option.

Any thoughts?

Thanks! I was looking through past comments on SLE-101 Plus too. Seems quite middy as well. I'll do some more nosing around!

I've had a few sets of Throw Backs and haven't liked any of them, but it's probably just me. I think Duncan Antiquities are really nice.

Maybe set your amp and the height of the Custom Buckers differently on your new guitar and get a different sound that way?

Instead of getting a new guitar I might just stretch a rubber band over a cardboard box. Then eq it.

Turning the pickup around WILL NOT CHANGE PHASE. Turn up the mids on the amp, or step on a Tubescreamer.

my new sunshine

Arcane humbucker sized P90, he has three flavors

you get crunch/grit while still being able to run the power amp at full bore while getting nice note to note string separation

you gonna be Happy Tree for sure

Tyson Tone, Wolfetone, Wizz are some other brand I use

Just Phil X that 59
