• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

A dealer has a new, unsold, perfect 1994 R9. The S/N is around #250. Beautiful 1/4" wide slight chevron flame.

He's already had it in storage for almost 15 years, and he's not planning on giving it away. But what should it sell for?

Does the fact that its true NOS make it more valuable than a mint one that has been sold?

Thanks guys.

Nobody can give you a realistic price without seeing the guitar! It's all about the maple. There were great tops at that time but also some pretty shitty looking BBQ tops. So prices could be anywhere from $4500.00 - $10,000.00

"Storage"... does that mean he couldn't sell it when it first came out?

I dont think so. More a case of him having so many guitars and business being so good that he just left quite a few "in the basement". I've known him since before the Historic Series started and there was always a case where the were "special" guitars put away. Always a couple special guitars on the floor, too, but he only brought them out 1-2 at a time.

Lets face it, the first time I walked in, I knew little about Les Pauls and the first few price tags I saw were pretty intimidating even in the early 90's.

If he had mostly high end guitars on display, I probably would have left empty handed. Instead I found the AFFORDABLE studios that started it all for me.

After I got my studio and was considering an upgrade, I pined after the Historics (93-95). But they were still out of reach for me. I feel fortunate the this dealer left a few in the basement.

$10,000?!?! Really? Can you describe how it could get this much? I understand its about the top, but WHAT about the top could make it that expensive?

Yeah, I am curious about this too.

Assuming both guitars have equally great tops, what would make a NOS '94 R9 worth more than a new 2009 R9 today- especially considering that the new R9 is a more 1959 period-correct accurate reproduction than the '94 R9?

Some pictures of the guitar would tell it all.

Depending on the quality of the top, the price could easily go into five figures.

Sorry, I don't have any pics at hand just yet. Getting pictures and actually BUYING it are on my todo list :) I'm almost done paying for a NOS 95 R0, and that one comes first.

Can anyone else post a picture of a top from a 94 ish guitar that could be near or above the $10,000 value? Ownership anonymity is fine, just want to see an example of a 5 figure top.
