• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Hi, which p90 in humbucker casing sounds best according to you?

It need not necessarily sound 'like a p90' or 'closest to a p90' - but that which sounds good in itself.

And any artists that you know of who use your recommendation? For example Harmonic Design site says Bill Frissell uses Z90, I have heard Warren Haynes uses Phat Cats etc.

This is for the bridge of a Gibson Les Paul btw - maple cap over mahogany.

Appreciate the feedback.

I've been using Harmonic Designs for 24 years , LOVE their Z90's. Just put a set in my new SG modern , the burstbucker pro's didn't do a thing for me . I've used the Gibson p94 . ok but not wow .

I have a Phat Cat in the neck of my Les Paul and I quite like it. My reference, I guess, would be a '63 SG Jr. I own.

I had some Lollars, but they were overpotted, the screws turned hard, and yet they managed to have a spike that made pick-clicks a problem as if they were microphonic.

For the life of me, I can't understand why Harmonic Design pickups get no love. I posted about them many years ago and got crickets. They had the best ad, Harmonic Design, we never heard of you either". I've had their Classic humbucker in one of my guitars for over 20 years. The Z90 is wonderful and fits in a humbucker space. I wouldn't be surprised if the VP90 was great as well. But, you never heard of me either so take it for what it's worth.

I only have experience with the Mojotone humbucker size P-90 and only in the neck position.
I believe it's Alnico 4 and it sounds pretty damn nice :D

This guy in the UK makes hum/90s to order, inc what colour bobbins you want.. I bought a set and I’m tempted, at a later date, to maybe put them in the new 61 SG RI. 🤔
