• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Ordering Caps for my Les Pauls... Which ones?

I was looking at Sprague Orange Drops. What would be some recommended values? I'd like to keep it from being too trebly... .022? .015?

What about Tantallum caps? Are they any good?

Most folks here recommend .022's. Hell, for $0.70 a pop, do some experimenting!

AS Heritage says, caps are cheap. Buy a few and experiment. Unless you get into some NOS stuff they are usually a buck or 2 each at most. Some are pennies each.

I have a .022 in the bridge and .015 in the neck. Many on the forum use these values so I tried them out. The advise was dead on. My guitar sounds great. Saying that I did change the pots at the same time so part of the tone change was the 500k CTS pots. I did try swapping out different caps now and then but always go back to Orange drops described above.

Do a search in the Tone Zone area. Countless threads on this topic.

Good Lord, no. Tantalum caps are probably the worst choice for audio caps.
