I'm buying a NOS 1995 R0! Its at the original dealer, Gibson confirmed. Its expensive. Its beautiful. The lacquer has shrunken to the point where its contoured over every line in the grain, every wave, every pore.

Whats a fair price range for this piece? I know its pretty rare. NOS is even cooler.

BTW, there is a NOS 94 R9 I'm considering as well.

Make sure it sounds good...

Are you suggesting its unsold because it sounds bad? I have not heard it. I hadn't really planned on using it as a player.

My dealer said he put several historics in the "back room" back in the day, and he's down to just a couple left. I believe him, he's not giving these things away.

So any guesses at a retail price range for the 95 R0? How about the 94 R9?

I personally wouldn't pay any more than I could buy a new '08 model for... but that's just me.

A regular R0? As investment? I hope you're VERY patient in that case, when it comes to value increase. Like 20 years or so, at best....
If it's Murphy, or Braz, or signed by Pagey, or something.... okay.
But a regular '95 R0 is worth only what a regular R0 is worth. Say $3.5K or $4K or some such.
You want value increase? Use the same money on a much older guitar. You can get a 50's ES-175 (P90. not PAF) for that much cash.

Is the '94 in the Murphy painted serial range?

I dont know. Its around #250.

I understand not to expect much if any appreciation any time soon, especially in this economy. But, I'm one of those guys that cannot, under any circumstances, play a guitar without scratching it!

Considering there were maybe 20 R0's made in 95, the last thing I want to do is DEVALUE it due to a stupid accident. i have plenty of perfectly good player Les Pauls. This one is just too pretty to wear out. I may shrine it. :ganz

The first day I played my new 08 R0, it slipped off the back strap button and down my leg and over the keys in my pocket. Instant $500 scratch.

I'm still hoping someone will give me a price range that is a fair retail for NOS.

E-mail Gibson with the serial, if it was shipped before November 1994 it should be Murphy painted. I may be wrong and some one should chime in here if I am. I have been wrong before and I am sure I'll be wrong again.

My '97 R0 is one of about 50 or so I believe judging by the serials and the models included in the run.

I have been offered between $6k and $8k for my R0 from unsolicited bids from various forums. It is not for sale. I am based in the UK so this is all speculation.

I hope this helps. You must remember you are not allowed to discuss prices from specific dealers here on the forum.

I'll check on the 94. If it is a Murphy, whats the premium for a NOS Murphy sprayed guitar. I'm not asking for an exact value, but an estimation of how much MORE a NOS Murph should be.

If you can get it for the price of a new one then I personally think you will get a bargain.

You mean the new street price of 6 grand? Thats the "new" price according to the worlds largest Gibson dealer...

I agree, but I'm curious if anyone thinks thats too much. Is a NOS 95 R0 worth the same as a new 08/09 R0 that GC sells? Or more/less?

If you'd like me to make your desicion I'll need the $6000, lol! There was a dealer in St.Louis that wanted 8-9k for a "like new" 97RO. The frets were really worn and needed a crowning and it had some dings and wear. I told him I could buy 2 1/2 new r9's for his price and he just shrugged his shoulders. It was light and resonant and had a killer top but the neck felt slightly larger than the 20+ classics I've played. So after I played it I then realized I did not think it was right for me. Try it out before you concern about price. I would not have a LP that I did'nt enjoy playing.

A '97 R0 was spec'd with a Flame Top. An '08 R0 is spec'd with a Figured Top. A Guitar Centre R0 or G0 is spec'd with a Plain Top.

The price premium is for the Flame.
