• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

So I had a bunch of store credit I had to use at GC, and I bought- sorry "pulled teh trigger" on this box.

I did a record at a studio in Georgia about 17 years ago, and it had a 280 that I loved, but I've never found one. This is the little brother, the 260. It was priced very low (about $300 less than what I see them for), and I had a few hundred in credit, so it didn't cost that much. Plus, I always buy on the GC card and pay the balance because I'll get a hundred and change back in credit.

A 280 was the last box I wanted in my collection of speakers, so I guess I'm done. I've sold tons of amplifiers over the last few years, and it's so nice to have a few that each sound different, which I love. I did the same with guitars and am about three guitars away from being out of the buying.

I want one of these and might go for a new one.
I don't know- being "done" with GAS might entail a sharp razor and a hot bath... i don't think I could take it.

Over the past three of four years I've done a lot of selling and a little buying. With this, I'm done with amps.

For guitars I have everything I want aside from three - A Strat Ultra with the Lace pickups, a Byrdland and some sort of archtop - probably a Super 400 or L5.

Here it is! There's some hiss, but I think it might be one of the weird 6CG7 tubes because when I pulled one out it seemed to go away. I ordered a pair and tried new tubes in everything else for the other ways.

Cool amp and Stratocaster. I’m owned this 280 a couple of years ago. I am guessing that they are both similar vintage.
Good sounding amps

Yes, I read that it was an amp that Buddy Holly used at one point. I bought it to flip, and I probably should have kept it longer, because it did sound good.

'At's a nice-a spaghetti.
When I look inside those old PTP things, it makes me glad I'm a Fender guy.
Been through my share of Supros, Premiers Mangnatones, though.
I think the one I have now is a 213.
Yours is going to need a service.

I have a few different brands. I like different sounds for the work I do. I'll bring this one in and it will get anything that needs to be fixed done and then I'll play it. I'm just really happy with how cool this one sounds.

To each their own :)

Beauty. I love those old true point to point amps. Vibrato circuit is just crazy with those washers. Always wondered if they were done up to tight what damage could happen to the caps. Hiss could be the lack of center tap. Put a link below with easy fix if it isn't the tubes.

Thanks! This isn't hum. It's just hissy/ocean-sounding when not being played. It sounds like a bad tube, so I'm hoping that solves ii! I appreciate the help!

That's what I thought, but I'm not an expert. I have a couple old Ampex tape machines and they're put together the same way.
