• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Even though I'm a geezer, I usually like punk and post punk more than classic rock. Not that I don't like classic rock, I do. The major exception is Zeppelin. I adore them, to put it mildly. And all my life I've very specifically avoided playing Zep on guitar because I didn't want to ruin the magic. Some of you will get it.

Well I finally broke down and started playing Zeppelin. And the magic is still there! I've even started a Zep only cover band and I'm having a blast. I don't have Jimmy's solos down very well and maybe never will, but my goal is to get the rest down and worry about solos later. An important part of it for ME is his tone. Yes, you can't get it perfect unless you ARE Jimmy Page, but playing his songs reasonably well, using the similar gear, dialed in like he does gets you farther than the drunk cougar at the bar can hear. :)

So I was recently looking into the Supro sound from LZ1 and 2. I though i would need to find a COUPLE amps because, lets face it, they weren't really built all that well back in the day, and half a century is a long time for reliability. I had no idea there were reissues until the day before yesterday. Wow. It's exactly what I needed. I got the only one within 500 miles today.

Here's the full color centerfold....l

Like "Good times, bad times."
:)
A hint of digital plate reverb, and step on the tremelo and a boost for the solo and its LZ nirvana.

Dual Tone.

I A/Bed it with a reissue Deluxe reverb and it was about the same volume but WAY more hifi. The Deluxe sounded dull and lifeless. Of course a 50 year old Jensen would help the DR.

Congrats Nice Score - I've also been doing some research into the Supro Amps, they seem like a nice amp :salude

Colorful still. You should throw in some fruit and photoshop the paint brushstrokes on it. Then record it to play over the still. Just sayin.

I should have put a little more effort into the background, but heck, at least I got a picture up.

Those things sustain like no other amp (model 24 I assume) with a tone bender type pedal in front. Perfect match that amp and pedal. Like you I play mine mostly with an LP even though Z1 was a Tele, very flexible (surprisingly).

I do wish I had a Tele here to try with it. I just don't play fenders as well as I would like. The green LP has coil splits and its in the ballpark but not really right. I have a double neck 12/6 Danelectro that sounds closer to the tele sound than the coil tapped LP.

Now strangely, my R0 sounds more like the LZ1 sound than any single coil setup I have. I better build a tele and see if I need one. :)

And the Tonebender......
I for sure will build one soon. Even though this amp saturates like crazy, it loves to be played just at break up and hit with a pedal.

I'm having fun!

I think that's great.

But even greater is your awesome attitude in stepping into the fire and doing what you

really want to do.

I love Jimmy Page and Zep as much as anyone.

And as much as I can't play like him, its sure as shit a great goal to pursue.

Good on you sir!
