started a new thread just to put up these pics and basically answer ren's question from other thread

ren-- I was a little confused when I got mine a year or so ago as there were no directions that seemed to make sense with it. I sent an email to the solo dallas web site and actually Fil Oliveri-- the main dude himself emailed me back.

now, for what its worth, he told me that the one I got was a rare version (as it has the KS rather than the SD on the front) and was like the same one that Angus got. he was kind of gobsmacked and said that even he doesn't have one of the "KS" replica ones. I"m not sure if he was just being nice but I thought that was kind of fun to find out. The back of mine is different than the other ones I"ve seen so I"m not sure what settings I have would apply to yours?

I guess I just have them both around 1 o clock.... I do think it has a similar effect that the OE compressor has -- just brings every thing up and makes it better, makes the guitar come more alive. I don't know... thats what it seems like to me.

I think it looks cool as hell though and its fun to watch the voltmeter go back and forth and the fact that Angus has one in his rig makes it even more fun I guess. I just love the whole story behind it and I thought these things are not going to be like growing on trees so I had to have one.

Its collecting dust for me right now too (along with my Analog Outfitters Scanner, my new Shin-ei Uni Vibe pedal, and lots of other stuff that in my mind will be in my studio next to my house when I build it and it will be like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory of fun effects and gizmos)

I'll have to take pictures. Mine is different. It's labeled SD SoloDallas Schaffer Replica 40th Anniversary (1976-2016). It has different labels on the front and additional switches and dials on the back.

On the back: A section named Optical limiter has a switch and a dial back there and Footswitch/Audio Out/XLR outputs and a mode switch.

On the front is Input/Boost dial, Output Dial and On/Off DIAL and the input jack.

ya yours is different ( but maybe the same mostly on the inside)

I guess I have the s/n switch where you have those two in back.... not sure how those are different

maybe we can summon Fil

if I rub the devil horns on my SG while chanting "DIRTY DEEDS AND THEY ARE DONE DIRT CHEAP" I have head that it might just summon him and he can help us understand what the difference is-- if any!

To me it seemed pretty much plug and play and it sounded pretty good. I think I didn't put the output on high but the input 12-3 oclock seemed to make the magic happen

I gotta be honest. When he said "Instant Angus" I thought it was a burger maker. I went hungry for a few days 'till I figured out that it wasn't gonna produce...

It's an "Instant Angus" machine. You point it at cows and they become Angus'ses which in this day is liquid GOLD! Everybody wants Angus'sezes. I figure mine is different because it has an "optical limiter" so's if you have a mean old range bull that you convert to an Angus you can make it so's he can't see you as easy...

This is good stuff. I feel it is lost on most. What a waste! Hilarious. Instant angus optical limiter. I love it.

becks bolero— Basically this fella Fil Oliveri was in a quest to make ANGUS TONE. He found an obscure article from early 80s guitar hero mag where angus said he used his wireless unit (the SCHAFFER WIRLESS UNIT) that I’m guessing Nigel tufnel also used So he could run on stage without all the mucky muck— in STUDIO Because he liked the tone better with the wirless unit. I think it works like a compounder? It compresses and elevates. So he found the Schaffer guy and the guy had like one left (these were rare and expensive) and he copied the circuit and also how the tower box looked and made these Schaffer replicas. Watch the rig rundown for AC/DC and you will see angus actually uses one of these replicas now. Pretty cool story .... plus they look badass

Compander which I believe to be a Compressor/Expander. Long before the digital world we have today. It compressed a signal to send it wirelessly then incorrectly expanded because of losses. But musically it was happy happy. I may have this wrong. But I think thats the way it worked/didn't. This video is why I bought mine by the by. I like Angus fine, but it nailed this...

WOW, that is pretty wild, I have never heard of that thing!

makes me wonder, I have an old dbx model 128 compressor/expander sitting here. I might try it out with my amp & see if it does anything

thank for the info!
