• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

is there anything i can do to make the posts turn a bit tighter. On a couple of my gibby's the tuners are extremely easy to turn. Others are nice and tight. The easy ones seem to get knocked out of tune easier...

sorry, no tips for tightening them up but i've got some klusons that you can spin with one finger off the guitar but once installed they hold tune fine.

They can only be tightened by opening the covers because the gear is connected to the string shaft where it passes thru the bottom mounting plate by peneing the shafts end with a hammer. If that brass gear hasn't losened on the shafts end, the mounting plated has turned up ears that the worm shaft passes thru that hold the shafts worm gear against the brass gear, and sometimes the ears tilt away from wear or from the knob and shaft being hit. Sometimes the brass gear begins to round over on the ends of the teeth from non lubrication against the worm shaft. The problem with removeing the covers is it will devalue your tuner with signs of the work haveing been performed, and the covers tabs may brake off when bent over to remove it from the mounting plate.
