Lyrics to one of my favorite AC/DC songs, "Let there be Rock." Well, let there be a new '55 wraptail custom!
Just arrived this morning and she's an early birthday present to myself. I was thinking I was going to go vintage and almost did (I came this close- tinsy winsy space between thumb and forefinger), but then realized I did not want to spend $10K+ on myself (severe guilt issues) and I decided to just be happy and buy this sexy beast.
First off, besides her seductive looks, she weighs a mere 8.35 lbs! Yessir!! Eating disorder supermodel lightweight (no weight relief/chambering either for those who are wondering). She came with more papers than my tax return, strung with 10's, and feels great.
So- the 1955 thing. Well, let me tell you this: KILLER comfortable neck profile, modeled after an actual '55 owned by Dave Carpenter. Long TonePros studs (made of steel) that go much deeper into the body than stock studs, thus giving more string vibration transfer. I can easily note the difference- She's LOUD acoustically and resonates very, very well as a result. Audio taper pots with VINTAGE wiring. This is a first for Gibson. Cleans up to a bell-like chime. So, lightweight, unique neck profile, great parts= fantastic instrument.
Big thanks to Chris at Private Reserve, who did a lot of A/B testing of several guitars for me and worked a killer deal for me.
I'll give a full tone report after I've spent more time with her. Right now, enjoy this pics. Hope you guys dig her:
