Hey guys,

i know one pic isn't much, but can anyone tell me about the model and original street price (not today's price) of this R9?

It is aged, not sure if its "lightly" or heavy. There is Laquer gone on the back edges but not the top. Lots of pits and checking everywhere. It is being sold as a new guitar by an auth dealer.

Appreciate anything anyone can offer about it.

(I edited the photo because I broke the link.)

I may have been unclear. I'm trying to learn bout this model IN GENERAL. Ie.. It's a standard R9 with aging, or they aged 10% of the VOS models in 2013, or they did general aging on all models since 2011 or whatever there is to know.

I don't shop retail for Historics all that often, and for all I know these are the laughing stock model of the whole historic series. I just don't know, but I sure think this one is pretty.

From the info you've given, it looks and sounds to be legimate to me. I'm fairly certain Gibson aged some of the 2013 R9s 'in-house'. I have an aged 2014 (aged in-house) that I really like.
BTW, that's a nice looking guitar!

Thank you. That's sort of what I was wondering. So if you take a 2013 VOS R9, do a bit of in house aging, you have this? And was there some premium on these? Like $500 over a gloss version? Or was it not that simple?

Any guess what percentage left as aged vs regular VOS?

Call or email Gibson, most of us don't have shipping totals.
The only aged ones I saw were CC's.

Gibson had their "Benchmark series" which were heavily aged.

There's where I'm confused. I know about Gloss, VOS, CC and Benchmark heavy aged. I can't find any mention of lightly aged on Gibsons webpage.

Ignoring shipping totals, does anyone know about when they started and/or ended these? I have no concerns about its authenticity, I just wanted to know if it was a limited thing or just a new version, like Gloss, VOS and Light aged as the current versions of R9.

or are/were these just a limited run that may or may not be continued?

I have to tell you the aging looked totally believable and not rediculous and fake like I've seen on some Fenders. The laquer removed on a few edged of the back may have been unlikely, but the front and headstock looked wonderful.

Just a quick follow up. Ive found references to 2012 light aged bursts. less from 2013. Still no idea what pric3 premium they may have carried.

I never knew there were general production aged models. I would have loved one! My 13 R9 VOS (buffed to gloss within a day of getting it) is slowly aging by itself. I still remember the first two dings. "ding" I hit the drummer's cymbal, "bump" I turned around and hit the upper bout where my arm rests on a mic stand. Both in one day! ...Slowly but surely she is showing signs of my playing. And my habit of playing too close to the drummer. lol

Still, the OPs model looks sweet. I always loved that color. Teaburst or Washed Cherry are my faves.

In case someone finds this thread in a search...

Ii ended getting that guitar. It is a 2013 1959 Historic Reissue limited run. It's lightly aged in Faded Tea Honeyburst, per Gibsons packing slip and box labels. I love it.

Here is a photo, and also an advertisement I found featuring this limited series. My research has also found that GC and at least 3 other dealers carried it in very limited quantities. They were only made in 2013 and are all done.

I want to point out that these guitars were limited production and no longer available. I only post the advert above for informational purposes so that others may see what series their guitar came from, and neither me nor this forum should consider this an endorsement.

I can verify that there were a limited number of in-house lightly aged R9's made and sold in 2013. I own the one below. Their original official price tags were around $7,800 but one could buy a brand new one up until the end of last year for around $500-750 above the going standard reissue street prices of $5,000 to $5,400.

Yours is beautiful. I'd love to see what they chose to "age" on the back. Here's mine. At the base of e heel the laquer is gone. Also the bottom is missing laquer but its not visible. The checking is subtle but looks good. There is some light buckle rash. I don't wear buckles in front, so I hope the dealer didn't let every swinging udder test drive it with a strap and a cowboy belt. I assume Gibson did it.

Yours too!

The aging looks very similar, although mine is just missing the missing lacquer on the sides. The belt buckle marks are there. And the horizontal cracks in the finish you see below on the back also run on the front. (Mine was a Musicians Friend guitar, by the way).

I zoomed way in and your back looks almost identical to mine. Good. Have you bonded with it yet? I bonded with mine right off because its all ready beat. Lol.

My new R8 is taking longer due to the big neck and no scratches yet. But it's SOOO light I will get it worn in soon. :spabout

Oh, yeah. I've had this for almost a year now and it's the easiest to gig with. Wide open sound, perhaps a bit due to the aging as well, and no worries about a ding or another scratch.

Cheers!
