Cool.
That badboy looks awesome.
I luv Darkburst's.:dude:
I hope they offer that for the R4's.I would then possibly special order one with an R0 neck carve.
Of coarse they could get the pickup cover color better.:)

This has been done before through some small runs (R4's too). Still a cool looking alternative to buckers. Regarding new ideas for the Historic line, Gibson has mainly been doing the broken record thing since 2004.

You mean since the 1950's, don't you? And I thought that's what everybody wanted anyway?

I'm suprised it's still hanging there without bringing the wall down

that baby is heavy....then again, I recently purchased an Cloud 9
so it's relative....matter of fact, most of the Gibsons felt like boat anchors

Look at those lovely pink pup covers. One day Gibbo will try to get it right. Then a few years later they may get it right....

Not exactly sure what you mean but Gibson Custom has done all sorts of variations on a theme to boost sales and a sunburst/darkburst R6 is nothing new. WW did a cool run of them with quilt tops a few years ago. Folks who've been following the Historics for many years have pretty much seen it all. OK, maybe I'd want one like that but with a Bigsby on it. :hee

I'm sure it's a cool guitar, but whenever I see P-90s and a sunburst top, I think one thing:

Pro Deluxe.

AMEN TO THAT!!! Reissues of things that never existed-could never figure that one out-but I know people will dig it-if you refinned a R6 it would lose it's value-but if Gibson does it...

This is bad news, I love my flametop R4 and the fact that it's different, I don't want Gibson putting them into general production!

In all seriousness though I'd be surprised if there was a big demand for these, mine came from the Wildwood 2001 run and I was still able to buy it new in 2005.

damn those pink pickup covers :pisd

I politely complained to Gibson through their forum in late 2005: " . . . regarding the color of my pickup covers/pickguard/switchring: my pickguard and switchring have a white/ivory type color while the pickup covers have a pinkish/flesh type color; this difference is easily noticeable by even a cursory glance. (Please note that I am aware that the 1956 Goldtop portion of the Gibson website includes the disclaimers that specs are subject to change without notice and that actual colors may vary slightly – but it appears even in that photo that there is also a distinct difference between the pickguard/switchring color and the pickup cover color.)
Is this difference in color a conscious choice by the Custom Shop or per a Gibson policy? If so, what is the explanation for the choice (e.g., attempt at historical accuracy? replicating a particular guitar?)? Or is it simply that the manufacturer/supplier of the pickup covers and manufacturer/supplier of the pickguard/switchring have variances in producing what is intended to be the same color?
My point is this: given the obvious difference in the colors, it is not likely that the Goldtops could pass CQ and ship without someone at Gibson noticing the difference; therefore, it seems reasonable to conclude the color difference has been implemented and is maintained for a specific reason. Any info or opinion on this will be appreciated. Thank you . . . ."

This was the complete response: "this is not done "on purpose" per se, but the colors of the plastic parts can vary a bit due to manufacturing inconsistencies at the vendor level. we don't view this as a QC problem, or a reason not to "pass" a guitar... ."

Geez, how lame of an "explanation." I would have preferred (and respected) the honesty of a more realistic "we just don't care" response.

They are all nice looking, i guess it will not be a historic reissue thou, different strokes, who ever thought liking a gold top would be a conservative view.

peace:note

Very nice tele00, my pic highlights the pink pups quite a bit I think, but its not that bad in most lights. I like it alot, from what I found on the forum there were only a half a dozen or so done in darkburst in 2000 and only 25 or so done with figured tops in various colours in 2001 so they are not the most common. I might even get round to emailing Wildwood to get some actual figures at some point.

I'll agree with the "not a reason to pass on a guitar" line...btw, all the Duncan covers I've seen are consistant and are a very nice color ..come to think of it all the Gibson covers I've seen are the same pinkish color too ..if they vary, it ain't much.
