• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

This particular guitar....man...it sounds so damn good....Maybe it's my particular mood. Maybe the stars are aligned and the moon is in the 7th house or something...but this Historic, and I've just gotten through listening to Greg play a bunch of them......this Historic; looks like # 7 3855, sounds the best of all the ones he plays on video (and he makes them all sound good...but this one is special.....at least to my ears).... the most balanced and dynamic...has that Jeff Beck thing going....it chirps, it sustains, it has double tone out the butt, woody, warm and dry as a bone (if I hear another person describe a Les Paul as sounding like a "Telecaster on Steroids" I will YAK FOR TWO DAYS AND NIGHTS).....I would BUY it in a heartbeat. I wouldn't hesitate if I had the loot.

Wow.

Yeah Dan, even though Greg can make any guitar sing, this guitar has got the it factor. There was a 335 and 330 that he played this past year that stood out from the rest of the pack.

Did you feel "it"??? Or am I just getting carried away time to time because I am so lusting for a good LP?

I really liked the growl on that one with all the strings having nice definition.

They kinda' sound like they have hotter pickups...which for some can be overbearing/harsh, but with a good player and a lighter touch can be quite rich.

It's hard not to use the Tele On Steroids descriptor when Greg seems to play more Tele licks on that thing than anything else. That said, it's a great sounding LP!

Maybe the 'Wildwood spec' pickup have more even coils or something.

Yeah, I'll have a listen to those a little later...but I agree that this Lester has a semi hollow tone...especially from the neck pup which also translates over to the middle position as well. Very articulate but not spiky or harsh sounding...and you can hear the woody, dryness in the tone as well...which is a characteristic that I look for and that the 50's LP's had in spades.

The goldtop has a great sound to it...more output like he said and more of a rock tone...but still bluesy sounding too. I've heard the video for the WC burst...it sounds real good too. I'm still going with the Ebony...lololol~~~~!!!!

It's got some of that semi-hollow 'bounce' in the neck/middle, but I can see how it's also got some Tele-like grind that you describe in the bridge. I wonder if it's the light weight that's emphasizing it.

Looks real familiar, even close to the same weight.

These were made with particularly light solid bodies and regular tops, as opposed to the 'double carves', right?

I believe that is correct. My black R7 is a 2011 WW Spec that just happened to also be light (8.11 w/o the pick guard/bracket on). I think the "feather weights" are just selected woods for weight.
