Clark Beaufort vs. Suhr Hombre

I’ve been using a Clark Beaufort 5E3 loaded with a Celestion Blue in my band. It sounds glorious, but there are moments when I feel I could use just a little more oomph. I don’t want a way bigger, heavier amp and I don’t want something with so much more wattage that it ends up being too loud when pushed to natural overdrive. This has me looking at the Suhr Hombre which is Surh’s take on the 6G3 Brown Deluxe. Years ago I borrowed a friend’s vintage 6G3 Deluxe and I loved it! Great tone! I didn’t own a 5E3 at the time so I couldn’t compare. I know the 6G3 is known to be less compressed and fuzzy when compared to a 5E3. I’m wondering if the Hombre will give me a little volume boost and a tad more punch while still allowing me to crank the amp to natural overdrive? Or will the difference in volume and power be barely noticeable? Should I be considering something more like a 5F4 Super?

It IS bigger and heavier, but the Clark Piedmont (Bassman type) is my favorite amp of all.

The tones outta this thang even turned WAY down are awesome.

I was turned onto these from this forum.

I would maybe look at the Tyger (Pro) from Clark.

I also run a hand built Fender Pro which sounds like heaven. Very close to the Piedmont in overall tone but a lower volume. Mine has a 15" but the Tyger with the 3 tens looks like the same thing and I'll bet would be heaven to your ears.

I own a Victoria 45410 Bassman and it does sound amazing. I giggged with it for 15 years. It’s definitely too loud to crank up with my current project and it’s definitely bigger and heavier than I would prefer.

I feel like the Victoria 35310 3x10 Tweed Bandmaster is exactly what everyone needs. The Goldilocks of them all

I have a Victoria 45410 and have played many Fender reissue Bassmans as well as the originals back when they were only 7-10 years old and recently.

Better? It sounds like an original from 10 years to NOW.

The Victoria sounds more like they did originally THEN. i.e. A bit tighter with less color from the drift.

The Fender reissues are kinda in between.

So it kinda depends on what YOU like.

I have a tendency to prefer the color and play the Clark a bit more because of it. It is richer sounding.

The Fender Pro '57 handwired sounds remarkably similar and is TONS easier to drag around.

Mine has a 15 which amazes me with the depth of tones you just don't get out of 10's or 12's.

Bandit 65 was my first "real" amp. Always loved that darn thing. Wish I never sold mine.

I own three Clarks. Beaufort, Tyger and a JTM 45 head. I couldn't agree on the recommendation more. Great amps.
