• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Can anyone tell me what I am seeing underneath this LPC's tailpiece?

no, but it appears to be allowing metal contact between the stud bushings and raised stoptail

I've not seen them in person very often, but I *believe* they are the oversized brass inserts Gibson used in the early 80's called "sustain sisters". Didn't know they used them on LPs, but they did have them on Lucille's.

On second thought, I may be wrong... I think Sustain Sisters were only under the TOM?

Are you looking at the washer looking items under the studs? If so, I have no idea. Maybe a locking tailpiece device?

My guess is that there was a chip in the finish

around the tailpiece bushing. These were used

to cover it up instead of doing a major finish repair.

If those are to tighten the studs for sustain, the tailpiece is still loose on the stud. I think one of the above answers about hiding some blemish might be correct:hmm.

Looks like the normal late '70s/early '80s cutaway.

I've seen a similar thing on Customs and Deluxes where there is a BLACK plastic washer under the bolts. Same color on both guitars.

That looks like a Brass cap to allow better coupling with a slightly raised tailpiece. I cannot say I ever saw one that way stock.

I think someone needed to pull a bushing to repair the ground wire and tore out a big chip of finish.
They are using a "washer" on both studs for symmetry. Just my theory.

Instead of asking here, why not ask the person selling it, and a photo request as well?
