• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Is it worth it?

Hey, I have encountered a lot of les Pauls in my life, and I wonder. Is it worth buying a used Les Paul custom shop from 2000-2009?

"Worth" means different things to different people.
Are you looking for a long term investment?
Looking for a lot of bang for the buck on a player?
The question is a little too broad and vague as presented.
Tell us more about your various Les Paul encounters, and welcome to the forum.

well for that kind of money they would have to pry it out of Eric Clapton or Jimmy Page hands .

I was partial to the ones from 99, 03 and 07. But hey...that's just me. There are great guitars from the era that you mentioned.:dude:

Depends on the asking price, but there are some stunning guitars made in those years.

My favorites pre 2013 are the Century Models 1999 and 2000 40th anniversary R9's. Worth it is up to to youu. If you have to be coaxed into buying one, I would think it not worth it.

You know why you want one?

You know what features you just haveta have?

Got a case or color preference?

Is Warranty an issue?

Will you be playing it, or displaying it?

So many variables that only you can decide on, as to worth.

Myself, I went way, way beyond to source my first R9, a 2000 because it was quite frankly the best guitar I had ever played. I had to have it and got into it for what seemed like a top sum. I traded stuff for it, mostly vintage and that was before everything shot way up in value before the reset in 2008.

Still, it was worth it to me. I traded stuff that I had drained all the Mojo from and the new R9 was a welcome source of fresh Mojolicious attitude and swagger. Played the snot out of it, toured up and down the east coast, from Quebec to Florida and a whole bunch of small club dates in-between.

For me it was worth it.

The OP is apparently a "drive-by" poster: One and done.

Seems like a lot of that here of late.
Makes me pine for the days when one had to jump through hoops to become a member.

No those are the bad wood years .:foghorn

Disclaimer , so subjective!
What do you mean "bad wood years?" I have a 2007 R9 and from what I understand, 2007,was a great year for mahogany. Please enlighten me if you would. :)

2007 a great year for mahogany? Why?? :##
I had read somewhere in this forum that apparently, 2007 Gibson was using better mahogany but this could be here say. IDK, like anyone else on this forum, I'd just like to gather as much info as I can. As far as if buying an older historic is worth it? Just as someone else had stated, is it worth it to the person who would be laying down the cash for it. If you play it and works for you, then go for it. If not...then.....next.
