• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The '60s was a good time for guitar players!

And one of the best decades for vacuum tube amps and valves. Nothing since has topped my Fender Blackface amps or RCA tubes. I wish that I hoarded some Marshall amps and Gibson SGs of that era. The one category of items that were wisely collected were LPs. Nearly a thousand classic rock and blues albums, which will never sound better than they did back then, when my hearing was in its prime. The old Chess label LPs had the low-fi crackle that has never been duplicated by CD's. I even have an old Les Paul and Mary Ford album.

No doubt. The '60s was a good time for guitar players!

Now that has to be qualified with............'if you lived in the USA'..... doesn't it.
Us guys outside of the US used to drool over the guitars and amps we saw in the magazines and on LP sleeves etc.........good lord it was tough for us:lol

Still a good time for guitar players. Always some folks kicking out the jamz somewhere or another...so good in fact that it probably *still* pays better to be a bass player or drummer...

Pray tell how so monsieur?.......remembering that the lead singer/vocalist always got the girls:lol

I just meant that you can't swing a dead cat w/o hitting a guitar player but bass players and drummers are harder to find.

Anywhere, and I mean ANYWHERE you are in high demand if you are a bass player or drummer. That is why my boy will be either. :yah

I don't grade on a curve, 10/10 is the best possible grade so 5/10 is pretty good. I'm a solid 3.5 on a good day. Most folks I encounter barely make it past 2.5 IMHO.:2zone

After watching Tal Farlow's instructional video, I consider myself to be about -63/10.

Aw man. Don't do that to yourself, unless you are trying to play like that. There's plenty of other ways to get your licks in...:salude

Thanks, but think of it this way. 3.5/10=35% of the best possible. Realizing this I retract my earlier statement and say that I'll probably never get to 3.5/10 but I'll keep trying.
Once I get there I'll start hoarding.
