• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

I get your drift. So, according to your "facts", everyone in Michigan is a gun-toting NAZI and everyone in Tennessee is a self-absorbed, gass-bag tree-hugger, then even though the original question was: "is there any difference in the quality of the guitars from each plant", the real question is: "would you rather buy a guitar from this guy,
2004-al-gore.JPEG

or this guy?".

Who knew guitars could be so political?

Nah. Elfin painted Michigan people as industrious and hard-working, and southern people as poor white trash. I put a different spin on it. If I wanted to take it farther, I'd post a picture of Flint Michigan today. It looks like the Moon, except with garbage.

The fact is that there are lots of racists and gun nuts throughout the US. Personally, I prefer Gore to Nugent though: They're both politicians these days, only Gore is a pro, and Nugent is a rabid jingoist who has no understanding of complex world issues. In terms of guitar playing, I remember Nugent's little "guitar showoff" competitions where he'd try to humiliate local talent. I remember a particular occasion where a quiet kid from Memphis, by the name of Shawn Lane, went up on stage and totally creamed him. It looked good on the idiot.

But back to the Nashville/Kalamazoo question: Both are good, but I prefer a Nashville for the updated hardware and fact that in this modern age, Gibson cuts up seconds rather than selling them. It's not a factory preference, but a times and policy preference.

"IMHO Gibson's biggest problem is their current reliance on big box stores like GC and MF. If the retailers take themself out of the QC loop then it's us the public that loses."

...Is that why an American-made Gibson is more and more out of $$$ reach seemingly every month for many of us who refuse to buy import guitars??? Yes to Heritage Guitars...

There are no SECONDS because Gibson sells them ALL as FIRSTS.

They only cut the necks off of stuff they cannot get away with selling because they would fall into the "FIFTHS", "SIXTHS" nad "SEVENTHS" categories.

Another fine example of you showing off your ignorance about the subject.

So, every guitar that leaves the plant is in pristine, dare I say *PERFECT" condition with absolutely no defects of any kind?

It would be ignorant to think THAT.

I'm glad to see that you learned how to spell.

First, every guitar that leaves the factory is not perfect but, "NEWS FLASH" neither were the ones that left the Kalamazoo factory that were not marked second. And who really gives a crap where the damn guitar is made as long as it is a good guitar? I personally could care less. I for one don't see a reason for harboring a stupid north VS south grudge 141 years after the Civil War ended. So let that dead dog lie, ok?

One more thing, I thought this was the Les Paul Forum, not your high school spelling bee.

Elfin Magic....Where can we see some of YOUR guitars?

I promise discretion, for various reasons, on most everything I make or work on, so let's just say that the chances are good that you've seen my work here and there already.

But I can show you this.

You obviously know about guitars yet you choose to post this belligerent crap that is made up of all kinds of ridculous untruths...

Kalamazoo is in Michigan. Michigan is a northern state. Henry Ford started his company there, as did General Motors...and Ted Nugent lives there. The Gibson plant was there from the early 1900's up until the 80's. Gibsons' were damn-near handmade during most of that time period.

Nashville is in Tennesee, which is in the South. Al Gore is from there and he claimed to have invented the internet. He also tries to live a "carbon neutral" lifestyle. There are more mobile homes in Tennesee than Michigan. The Gibson plant has been there since the 80's and utilizes ultra-modern machinery and low-dollar labor to give you an instrument with virtually no soul.

Now, with only the facts I have given you, do you REALLY need to ask this question?

I thought the idea of these forums was to actually post helpfull information, if you know what you're talking about, or just kindly pass it by if you can't contribute anything usefull. And yes I do have a sense of humor but I don't find it humorous when you are making jokes about others demographics or social class. For that matter I can't tolerate any form of bigotry. And one last thing, the request was for one of YOUR guitars, not a knockoff of a Ted McCarty creation.

Settle down, dude. Take the afternoon off, go get some Viagra, some vodka, an issue of Teen Beat and relax.

Bottom line: Better music comes out of the south. Even if they are using more modern technology in the factory, the souther region plays the LP's better than anyone. No offense to Joe Perry or Ted Nugent but the music speaks for itself.

Thanks for the advice. I'm actually taking the whole year off, don't need a pill to get hard, I don't drink vodka or read juvenile material.
