I have noticed quite a few early sixties SG Specials with Black Switch tips. Were they standard on SG Specials on any specific years ? or was it as supply dictated ?

Never seen one with a black switch tip. I believe only the white was factory original...

Yep I had a 1965 SG Special with black tip, but no way of knowing if it was original. I thought it wasn't at the time so replaced it with an original 60's white. Subsequently sold the guitar and still have the black tip.......
