• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hi, greetings from Argentina.

I'm looking to buy my first Gibson LP. I have a budget of $3200 approx. Bear in mind that the prices here in Argentina are buffed up.

So far I've enquired about 2 LP's.

A) Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus 2002 (the 2nd, 3rd and 4th images). The buyer asks for 3200, he does not have the auth cert, it is 100% original and has BB 1 & 2 pups.

B) Gibson Les Paul Slash 2008 (1st image, I have to ask for more). The buyer asks for 2900.

I mostly play blues, blues rock and hard rock (Aerosmith, GNR, Kiss).

Any help and suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

I can only offer cosmetic opinions. If it were me, I'd go for the '02 Standard Plus. That's a good looking top, and it's got better pickups in it. As for the slash, I find that sunburst ugly, and I don't care for the caricature on the headstock.

If you are new to the world of guitars, choosing your first Gibson LP can be an exciting but daunting experience. The first thing you should consider is your budget. Gibsons are on the high end of the price range, so make sure you are prepared to pay for quality. Next, determine what style of music you want to play. If you are a beginner, you may not have a specific style in mind yet, but if you do, make sure you choose a Gibson LP that is appropriate for that genre.

Find one with a neck profile you like. That's always been my #1 factor in whether or not I ultimately get along with a guitar. That's also why it's important to try to get it in your hands before you buy. Best of luck!

I'm biased but I'd go with the 2002 but check the neck profile as I believe they made a 50s and 60s one. I have a 2002 Standard Plus in Lightburst with a 50s neck and love it. It's quite light too due to weight relief.

I may be wrong but don't believe they came with an auth certificate.

I've owned both.
If it were my money I would go with the 02.
