Recent Gibson USA production LP's, gold script on headstock, above or below clear?

Hello all,

I'm going to install Kluson vintage style tuners with conversion bushings on a 2024 LP Special. I've done this a number of times on other Gibsons and Fender, and often it requires sanding down and polishing out the witness marks from the washers on the modern threaded tuners.

I'm wondering how careful I need to be around the gold 'Les Paul Special' script because I really do not want to burn thru it.

Thanks for any advice.

for production it is below the clear so you have a bit of wiggle room, for the historics it is above so be careful if you try one of those

Thanks for the tip. That's how it seemed to me because it very much does not look raised and I can't feel it rubbing across my finger.

I pulled the low-E tuner and fortunately the finish isn't too marred or pressed underneath it. If that's consistent across all six it won't take much finishing to clean them up.

Will post pics when the job's done.

Much appreciated!

Got the tuners installed installed today. A member on another board informed me that this guitar may not have the tuners in-line as would be necessary for the plate tuners. Turns out the middles were nearly 1mm inboard of the outers. Fortunately the bores weren't too wide to be covered by the bushing flange when pressed in line, just had to get crafty with shimming them on the inside. A definite word of caution to anyone looking to do the same job on their recent Specials and Juniors!!!
