Hi Everyone

I have a 65 SG Standard that had its long Vibrola removed a long time ago and a stop tail fitted too close to the bridge. I wanted to put a Vibrola back on and bought a second hand 60s chrome Vibrola a few years ago. It has a lowish break angle, but just has enough downward force. The treble side of the leaf spring sits about 1-2mm higher than the bass side. Are the treble and bass sides of the leaf spring and comb supposed to be level? Or is the treble side higher to compensate for the thinner treble strings?

Thanks in advance

On my mint-ish '63 they are level. Others I've had were too.

Thanks. Does the felt on the bottom of the leaf spring permanently rest on the body? I added a new felt strip to mine and it does

It does, but I don't know if it is the original felt. It's black.

yeah and there’s usually a finish blemish caused by it

btw, I’ll have to look at my sg’s later ..I don’t believe there’s normally a height different between the bass/treble side ..but I could envision it happening if someone were to constantly crank either way on one (?)

Thanks. I’m guessing someone cranked on this one. I’ll take it off and try and even out both sides by dropping the treble side a little.
