I just checked out the electronic stuff (sorry, but I don' know dick about the terminology, and I've had a few Grey Goose martinis:)spin ). If it's supposed to be historically accurate to the PAF's and the 59, how come the electonics are different then my 57 GT???? The transistor things are different. I don't get it. Wouldn't that change the tone, etc.???????

did you buy them both new?

if so what years are they?-i'm assuming that you mean the capacitors in the control cavity right? my y2k r9 has the stock orange disc caps-i'm going to upgrade the pots and caps with real 50's stuff (or good late model 500k pots would suffice)as i've heard its a huge tone improvement-that and some pickups too-party on XOSKELETAL-im right there with ya:lol2

Gibson never said these guitars would be histortically accurate to the originals, you know. They just implied it.
And even if they DID say they were, they were talking about construction details like the long tenon and 17 deggre headstock angle, not the electronics. Hate to say it but your R9 isn't even wired thesame way as your 57 is- look carefully, you'll see that the tone cap comes off the volume pot and goes to the tone pot on different lugs.
They don't make bumblebee caps any more, they haven't for 35 years. The pots are'nt the same either. electrically your R9 has a lot more in common with a Production Standard than your orignal GT.
Yer a lawyer, so sue them for false representation.;)

I just got the 2001 R9 2 weeks ago, and today was the first day I really go the chance to let go loud. The comparison, from my useless, tone-retarded ears will come in a thread later. Preliminary opinion, the 57 has a depth that the R9 doesnt. However, the R9 sounds better then I expected. Unfortunately, my 92 LP Custom, right now, is lacking.

Thanks for the info dude:dude

Ed. I already have a complaint drawn up against Gibson. Misrepresentation, misappropriation, misogeny, misallocation, and any other "mis" I can think of. I will make them pay for my emotional distress:)spin So, you "have the fever . . . for the girl." What song is that from Einstein fever boy?????
